I believe growing up in a really small town gives a person a little advantage when it comes to the imagination. You need one or you go mad.

The noise of the creaking stairs, the ones I had just crept up, sounded like it echoed in my ears. Someone had followed us here. “Jake,” I whispered, hoping he was messing around. If he was, I would be angry. I lifted one leg after the other and slipped my high heels off, holding them both so I could tiptoe through the half-constructed mansion without making noise. Jake didn't answer, but the footsteps had stopped from the moment I whispered. The scary movie marathon we’d had before Rachel died flashed through my head, bringing ideas and memories with it. I tiptoed around the corner, brushing my Frankenstein’s bride dress on the rough edge where the unfinished walls met. The drywall scraped against me, making me wince as I hurried along the corridor to the back deck. Whoever was in the house with me was either moving silently too or they were standing still, listening. Either way, I had a terrible feeling this wasn't a game. That meant one thing: Jake was injured or hiding. And I was alone. My heart raced, my eyes burned from not blinking—fearful I would miss something—and my mouth was as dry as a mouthful of popcorn. The floor creaked. I froze. “Sierra,” someone whispered into the dark. My skin crawled when I realized it wasn't Jake. It wasn't his whisper. I’d heard that enough times, always in the dark, to know it wasn't him. “Sierra, don't be scared.” It sounded like something it couldn't be, but I didn't believe. I stayed perfectly still, waiting for the moment I needed to run to the back deck and jump down onto the sandy beach. What had the girls in the horror movies done wrong? What could I avoid? My mind raced, remembering the runners always got caught. They always got stabbed. Usually in the back. The thought of it made my skin burn where I imagined the knife would slice. The hiders always got caught. They were the ones breathing too loudly or hiding in stupid places. “Sierra, I won’t hurt you if you come to me.” I squeezed my eyes shut for half a second and waited for the answer, the right choice, to pop into my head. A dog barked, making me jump and open my eyes. The sound was joined by the creaking of the floorboards again. With gentle breaths and controlled movements I crept along the hallway, entering the spot where the kitchen or master bedroom would likely go. The house was freshly sealed with windows and doors, but it was still in the drywall stage with plywood floors. The massive back deck was through the white French doors, facing the beach and open ocean. The moon offered light, enough to make shadows move with me. I hurried to an alcove I assumed would one day be a nook for a breakfast bar or maybe the ensuite soaker tub. I pressed my back against the wall and stared at the bright white French doors. If I could make it to them, I was free. If only I had my cell phone, I could call the police or Jake or Vincent. Someone would come and help me. Even Ashton might answer. But that wasn't an option. I scolded myself for my weakness in me and forced my focus to be on the doors. They were my answer. They were my hope. As I exhaled and plotted my moment to run and everything I would do from that point on, the floor creaked in the hallway behind me. It was now or never. Live or die. I took one more breath and pushed off from the wall…

Getting set up
These three steps are crucial to ensure you can access the AR content.
1.On your smart phone or tablet, download the Aurasma app from your app store.
2.Login to the app, and register your account.
3.Search for the user ‘MarkedByFate’, and click follow.
Accessing the Immersive Fantasy™ Augmented Reality content
Follow these steps carefully to access the AR content. Additional help can be found on the Aurasma help desk.
1.Read and enjoy the story, and watch for clues to the AR content. These will appear in the form of images with a symbol next to them, denoting the type of AR content. Content viewable includes images (camera icon), videos (movie clip icon), or music (music icon).
2.You will need one device/format to read on, and a smart device to access the AR content.
3.When you spot an Immersive Fantasy™ clue, open the Aurasma app on your smart device.(Navigate to the viewfinder screen if the app does not automatically do this.)
4.Centre your viewfinder on the trigger image. Make sure to include all of the trigger image in the screen. You can view the content vertically/in portrait or horizontally/in landscape.
5.The app will display the AR content in the form of an image overlay, video overlay,or music overlay, as denoted by the symbol next to the image.
6.Enjoy!You can zoom in and out and tilt your camera to fully explore each piece of content. Make sure you have your sound turned on so you can listen to the video and audio content! You will have to continue focusing on the content to keep listening to music/watching videos/viewing images.
7.It might take a little practice – don’t worry if you struggle on your first try.
Troubleshooting
What to try if it won’t work.
1.No AR content is popping up: have you registered an Aurasma account,and followed ‘MarkedByFate’? You must do this to access the content.
2.No AR content is popping up: have you made sure all of the trigger image is in your viewfinder?
3.No AR content is popping up on my kindle/e-ink device: please adjust your device screen brightness. If the screen is too bright or too dim, the image cannot be recognised by the app.
4.I can’t hear any sound: check the icon. Only video/music AR content has sound.
5.I can’t hear any sound, and it should be playing some: please ensure your volume is not muted,and turned up.
6.The content keeps disappearing: ensure you keep the viewfinder focused on the trigger image so that the AR content will remain overlaid on your screen.If you move too far away from the trigger image, the AR content will disappear.Activate it again by re-scanning the trigger image.
7.Can I access the eBook and the AR content on the same device? No. Aurasma uses your device camera, so you will have to read the book on a difference device to the device you are using Aurasma with.
8.It’s just not working – I’ve tried everything: Please refer to the Aurasma help files,and contact their help desk if you are still having issues. Whilst extensive testing has been performed to ensure maximum device compatibility, regrettably not all devices may be compatible. Best compatibility will be found on pixel based screens with good brightness levels.

Review- With such a heavily detailed blurb, I don't really have to go into the storyline at all. It pretty much covers it. However what it doesn't cover is how Haunting Lia will absorb and engross you.

To put it bluntly, the prologue scared the crap out of me. I don't do well with creepy, ghostly subjects at the best of times let alone in a well descriptive book, but the fact that it created a reaction from me says a lot. In a good way. The rest of the book was just as good. Scarey, twisted, dark and creepy as well as touching, emotional and romantic. All of this mixed with a well thought out original and creative storyline, and Shannon Eckrich has delivered a thoroughly enjoyable and addictive read. 

I highly recommend this to any paranormal lover out there or anyone who is thinking of delving into this genre.

Review- I am seriously loving Lacey’s writing right now! She is very quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.

This book was fantastic!! It hooked me from the very start! As always, Lacey has created such real characters that you will love from the beginning. Grandma Mullins was one of my favourites, (besides from the very yummy Vance!). I would have loved to have a Grandma like her. The love story between Vance and Portia is just so romantic ** sigh**. Their instant connection will make you jealous and happy all at the same time. The binding spell … that’s all I am going to say because you will just have to read it yourself!! I haven’t read a lot of stories with witches and magic but this book has made me very curious to read more. I felt I was learning just as much as Portia was.
Portia discovers on her 16th birthday that she is a witch, and that her dad and Grandma Mullins
are powerful leaders of a Coven. A far cry from the encyclopaedia salesman that she thought her dad was!! Vance is 18 and is also a very powerful warlock and part of the same coven. He is on the run from his dad and the coven has been keeping him safe. It soon turn out that Portia is also very powerful but as she is still just learning they don’t know the full extent of her powers.

I can not wait to read the rest of the books in this series to find out more about Vance and what his father’s intentions are, as well as finding out just how powerful Portia becomes.

I give this awesome book an easy 5/5!!!

Review- Ok where do I start? I found Indigo Awakening very hard to get into. I found that I couldn't lose myself in the story or invest myself into it. I found it quite confusing, but jumping from about 5 or 6 different points of view will do that to you. I think that was the most frustrating part. There were some characters points of view that would come into the story who I hadn't even heard of in the story until that point. I personally wasn't able to make a connection to the characters and I didn't find myself drawn to any of them either.

I found the writing a little jumpy and had trouble trying to keep track of where I was. It didn't seem to me that there was any real explanation of the "Indigo children" until way down the track in the book and by that time I was getting fairly frustrated with the story that I lost interest.

It's safe to say that Indigo Awakening just wasn't for me. Usually I really love teen and YA books, but this one I think should definitely stay within that age group.

Thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable Paths of Thorn and Flame is a great read for guys and gals who want an action packed escape from reality. I would highly recommend it to readers between the ages of 13 and 25.

Review- Nathan wasted no time jumping straight into the story from where we left off in Dark Matter Heart (If you missed my review for that check it out HERE). 

Now where do I start? 

Ok so firstly a note to anyone who has this on their TBR pile, if you're a sook (like I am), don't read it at night. I had NIGHTMARES!!!  It seriously creeped me out! What might have done that you ask? Well I can't give anything away but I will say one thing... Frankenstein... I don't think I have ever had nightmares from a book before. So kudos to Nathan for making me poop my pants (not literally).

So onto the story and what a story it is. Fast-paced, intense, creepy, exciting and full of non-stop action! Nathan Wrann entertains page after page with this energetic vampire story that has many twists and turns  along the way. Add in a little pinch on romance and you are on one heck of a ride. 

I have been so swept up with this story that I immediately picked up the 3rd book in the series once I was finished. So keep an eye out for my review of Paths of Thorn and Flame which will be posted in the next few days.

Review- The Annihilation of Foreverland by Tony Bertauski

Review- I am struggling with how I feel about this book. For one, it took me forever to read, and not because of it's length. I literally fell asleep every time I tried to read it. It didn't really capture my attention. I found myself confused with the storyline for the first 65% of the book. I had no idea where it was going or what was happening half the time. It just seemed to drag. However once you pass the first 65% of the book it does start to get interesting. Major elements of the story start unfolding and we start to understand what is actually happening and why the boys are on this island in the first place. The last 35% of the book is quite fast paced and entertaining. It is just disappointing that I had to wait so long to start actually enjoying it.

The concept of the story however is really interesting. Without giving too much away, think of the movie "The Island". The concept is quite similar but with an insane and quite disturbing twist at the end.

As you can tell, my thoughts on The Annihilation of Foreverland are quite jumbled. I didn't like the first 3 quarters of it but I liked the concept and ending. I don't think this book is for everyone. If you're into Sci Fi then definitely give it a go but if not then it's probably best leave this one off of your TBR pile.

With an initiate to watch over, and being torn between her boyfriend and a guy she has been synced with, Cordelia's journey is fast paced and thoroughly entertaining.  

With twists and turns on every page, Initiation will have your mind and imagination on overload. I highly recommend reading this one. It's the perfect little escape into the paranormal world.

Review- What an intriguing story about the battle between good and evil with a very creative twist to it. Jenna Kay has taken the well used tale of good vs evil to another level with her use of such amazing creativity and imagination. The characters in the book (and not just the main ones) had their backgrounds explained at some point in the book which I loved. I find that some books I read we are given characters and have to create their lives in our mind. Jenna Kay made sure that we had a platform for them. Greatly appreciated! Mark of the Seer is fast paced with a main storyline and lots of events happening in between which means I didn't get bored. Even if the paranormal genre isn't your thing I honestly believe that all types of people will enjoy this book. Young and old. So make sure you get your copy once it's released!

Review- This was not what I expected at all! Now as a pre warning there may be some SPOILERS in here... When I started reading Every Last Kiss I was thinking “oh gosh not Cleopatra and Marc Antony!” Only because I have not long finished watching the Rome mini series on DVD. So as I was reading all I could think of in the way of their descriptions and attitudes were what they were like in Rome, which was not very nice. And as I was reading their fateful ending I pretty much ran the scene from Rome through my head. So it's fair to say I didn't have a great starting experience of Every Last Kiss. Then before I had a chance to get use to the idea of reading about them I am thrown 2000 years forward! Utter confusion was my first thought. I was trying to figure out how this all worked in together. So from the important historical happenings of Cleopatras untimely death we go to the not so important relationship troubles of Macy Lockhart. She has just found out that her boyfriend of 2 years Derek had cheated on her. So as does most 17 year old girls who gets their heart broken they seek out revenge somehow. So with the help of her best friend Jessa, Macy destroys everything ever owned or given to her by Derek and dumps it in the tray of his truck... Sounds fair to me! Then the fun begins. At home waiting for her was a package containing a Bloodstone left by an unknown person. Hmmmmm, brain starts ticking away, “who could it be???” Macy starts seeing visions (A dark pair of eyes in particular) and starts to think she is crazy when Annen (a priest) appears in her bedroom who takes her back 2000 years to the time of Cleopatras ruling. The Bloodstone being an aide to help her time travel. So she is back 2000 years and back to her previous lifes body- Charmain. Her memories of her previous life are restored.

Courtney Cole has a different versionof Cleoptra and Marc Antony for us to see. Instead of being the horrible power hungry people we were lead to believe she shows us a loving, kind and generous couple. Being Cleoptras right hand lady, Charmain (Macy) knows all that is going to happen to them having done it already 2000 years ago and the worst part is, she has to let it
happen again so to not change history. It also means letting her soul mate Hasani die again too. Now Hasani I am grateful for. He wasn't in the Rome series so I could make him up in my head all on my own ;) He is the perfect gentleman. The dark dreamy kind, I would gladly take him home. Now I cant give too much away, even though I want to just tell the entire story! The story from when she was taken back 2000 years is just fantastic! So much happens from getting her bloodstone stolen to power hungry people wanting to change Fate. I have a confession, I did shed a tear or two but I will NOT tell you why. I am itching to tell you the fate of Charmain and Hasani but I have to try and keep my mouth shut!

Cournet Cole has really done an awesome job putting Every Last Kiss together. Just by reading this you can tell the amount of research that she has done to make it as close to history as possible but still putting her own personal touches into it. She has kept it real. The way she describes Egypt as such a beautiful, magical place makes me want to go there, but 2000 years ago! After my rocky start, I just loved it! It's such a nice change to read something as fresh as Every Last Kiss was. I would definetely recommend everyone who loves YA/ Romance to read it. Even if you're not into history (like I am) you will thoroughly enjoy it. And to make it even better there are 2 more books to follow, which I will definetely be reading. Fated and With My Last Breath are
books 2 and 3 in the Bloodstone Saga. So make sure you check them outonce you have finished with Every Last Kiss.

OH MY GOSH where do I start??? I loved this book. From the first sentence you are thrown right into action. No mucking around which for me is essential because I get bored easily. I was sucked into the story from the get go. Chase (I love that name) is your typical 17 year old boy who just wanted to make his Father proud but nothing he ever did was good enough. He realised he would never be good enough when his Father exiled him from “The Circle” along with his Mother. So from the start you have a soft spot for Chase. Chases' world is thrown upside-down when he meets Marcus and Rayna and everything he has ever been taught to believe is not as it seems. He grew up with a hatred for Underworlders but Rayna is part Hunter part Underworlder. Learning to put his trust into someone who he was taught to hate doesn't come easily for Chase.
M.R Merrick has a fantastic imagination. The interesting creatures and realms are so different to anything I have ever read before and the way he described all of the details made it easy for me to put it all together in my head, like a movie. I cannot praise this story highly enough. I loved reading it and I loved playing it all out in my head. It's definitely a story I lost myself in and will continue to because there is a sequel coming. “Shift” is due to come out in early 2012. I wonder what is in store for Chase and Rayna? I will be sure to keep you posted.

Review- Dream Smashers is a great story with a great moral behind it. Substance abuse is such a common occurrence in todays society yet we never hear how it effects the people who watch their loved ones with the addiction. It was a nice change to read from their point of view. There were so many obstacles that Autumn faced throughout Dream Smashers, all connecting to each other in a believable way. Reading Dream Smashers made me come to the realisation that no matter what poop life throws at you, you can learn from it and move on. That it's ok to have dreams and aspirations for yourself and to not let anyone stand in your way. Even if your mother is a junkie as Autumns is. Autumns Mum Jacinda is your typical selfish “tweaking” mother who cares for nothing but getting her next hit. Reading her side of the story was so frustrating but it opens your eyes to what it's really like for someone who is an addict. Autumn to me had rose coloured glasses on a lot of the time. She didn't see things and people how they really were. She grew up with one friend (Rainy) and that's all she knew. So watching her start venturing out being uncomfortable was really interesting. Meeting Evan (sweet, carefree, hot guy) helped Autumn open up and realise she is lucky to have the life she has, even though it may not seem great sometimes. Which is why I love Evan! He was my favourite character in the novel. He never judged. If the world was full of Evans there would be world peace for all time. He balanced Autumn out. I really think there is so much to be taken away from Dream Smashers. I have taken away things like not having irrational goals, have a bit of faith and I have smashed my rose coloured glasses. Not everyone is what they seem to be on the outside. So what I am giving to you as a person reading my review is an instruction. It is to READ DREAM SMASHERS! That is all!

Author Interview- Q1- First of all I'd just like to say that I really enjoyed reading Dream Smashers! There is an issue with substance abuse in Dream Smashers that tends to be one of the main obstacles that Autumn has to navigate around, so my question is, Why did you choose to write about that particular subject?

A1 - Thank you, Renee. I'm glad you enjoyed Dream Smashers.
The number of people addicted to meth or who know someone addicted to meth is crazy high. Many of the YA fiction books I've read pertaining to meth have been about the protagonist's struggles with addiction. There are, however, far more people out there who haven't even touched the drug, but the drug has touched them and pretty much destroyed their lives. What about them? They had no say in their mothers' or fathers' or siblings' or best friends' decision to use meth, yet they still pay the price.

I, too, have meth addicts in my life. I felt compelled to write Autumn's story, a story of hope, for their children and others like them.

Q2- I noticed that while reading Dream Smashers I found myself thinking “oh maybe I worry too much” and“ ok maybe I cant control everything”. Was this your intention?To try and make people realise, Hey you only have one life make the most of it, live your dreams?

A2 - Wow. That's a great conclusion. It's true. We can't control everything, but what we can control is how we react. I didn't intend to create a message so much as to tell a story. I think if there is an underlining message in Dream Smashers, though, it is that life doesn't always have happy endings. What it does have is choices. You can choose to follow the path or you can make your own. It's up to you and only you.

Q3- Now I loved Evan. He was so loving and carefree. Who is your favourite character?

A3 - Yay! An Evan lover. I like Evan, too. Many people don't because he's not dirty enough or something. All the characters are my favorite, but if I had to choose one, I'd choose Autumn. She's so lost and trying to find her way, just like us all, yet she's strong and knows that she can reject the way of life she was brought up in and can find her own way.

Q4- What is next on the agenda for you?

A4 - My new novel, Loramendi's Story, was released in August. It's the first in the Lords of Shifters series and I'm currently working on the second book, Spider Wars, now.
I also have a local tour this October. The Rain Boots Required YA Author tour kicks off at our first stop in Vancouver, Washington, this Saturday. Wow, can't believe it's all over already. We are the last stop on this tour and we have a treat for you all today. I was lucky enough to sit down and get Lil to answer some of my questions. So sit back and enjoy my interview with Lil...

Stacey: Hi there Lil, thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to join us here. Please, have a seat.

Lil (dressed in jeans and layered T-shirts, dangling earrings on her ears and charm bracelet on her wrist sits on a chair and crossed her legs):

Thanks, Stacey. You did say this interview is for your personal journal.

Stacey:  Yes. I know I can never share what you say with the world.

Lil (grimaces): Yeah, the High Council might go ballistic that we’re talking to humans, but I made a pact with my boyfriend.

Stacey (leans forward): What pact?

Lil: He only agreed to do an interview with your friend Mindy if I did one too.  *rolls eyes* He’s so stubborn.

Stacey (chuckles): He’s quite the character, isn’t he?

Lil (smiles dreamily and sigh): Bran is Bran.

Stacey: So can you tell me a bit about yourself?

Lil:  I’m a Guardian—part fallen angel, part human. Humans call us Nephilim. I live with my grandfather, who is the present Cardinal Psi Guardian. My grandmother was a Gypsy  princess. She and my mother, uh, *Lil frowns*, died when I was a child.

Stacey: Your father?

Lil (frown deepens): What about him?

Stacey: Uh, are you worried about what he will do next?

Lil(shakes her head): Sorry, I don’t like to talk about him or his motives.

Stacey (nods quickly): Oh, okay. What does a Guardian do?

Lil (grins): Hunt down demons.

Stacey:  That smile says it’s something you enjoy.

Lil (wrinkles her nose): Someone has got to do it.

Stacey(frowns):  I know that you train to fight demons. How's your training coming along?

Lil:  Great. I’ve the best trainer.

Stacey:  What is it like having so much power?

Lil (shudders):  Scary. My grandfather and the others expect so much from me. I always feel I’ll fail them or something.

Stacey: You’ve done great so far. What's it like when you go on a hunt?

Lil: It’s hard to explain. It’s both exciting and scary.

Stacey: -What do you like doing in your spare time?

Lil: Hang out with Bran or my human friends.

Stacey: You and Bran have become really close, what's a couple of your favorite things you do together?

Lil: Teleport to special places away from people, demons, Guardians and just hang out. Or hang out at my place after school and just talk.

Stacey (blinks again):  About?

Lil (flashes another smile):  Anything and everything we did that day, the music we like. Bran was into a different of music before we met, but being with me changed that.

Stacey: What did he like?

Lil (laughs): Welcome to the jungle… Eye of the Tiger…, you know, rock groups like Survivor, Guns N Roses, AC/DC…

Stacey (smiles): Nice. Classic. And you? What are you into?

Lil: I’m into pop…Pink, Evanescence… R&B, J-pop, K-pop...as long as it celebrates love and relationship, I like it. *grins* He’s starting to like those too.

Stacey (consulting her notes):  Can you tell us anything Juicy about Bran that we don't already know?

Lil (shakes her head): I can’t. His sister mentioned that he keeps a journal and everyone is now asking about it, even Kim and Izzy. Sykes is making fun of him. I’ll probably have to talk to him about that.

Stacey(smiles):  Have you read it?

Lil (shakes her head): No. He won’t let me.

Stacey: You could glamour him and make him give it to you.

Lil(smiles): I could but I don’t mess with my friends’ heads, human or Guardians, and especially not Bran.

Stacey (raises her brow): Really? What about Sykes?

Lil (blushes):  What about him?”

Stacey: You mess with his head without trying.

Lil (bristles): I don’t.

Stacey (smiles apologetically): I didn’t mean it that way. I mean, he’s into you too. How do you feel about him?

Lil (sighs):  Sykes is a friend. A good friend. I hope he meets someone he likes better than me.

Stacey: If Bran wasn’t in the picture, would you date him or Remy?

Lil (shakes her head): I can’t answer that. I need to go.

Stacey (consults her notes):  Just one more question. Can you tell us anything about what's next for the Guardians?

Lil: We’re busy canceling the contracts Bran signed when he worked for Coronis. (stands up) I really need to go now. Bran is waiting and growing impatient. It’s been nice talking to you.

Stacey: No, the pleasure was mine. Thank you.

Lil (waves then leaves the room)
