Review- The Annihilation of Foreverland by Tony Bertauski

Title- Annihilation of Foreverland
Author- Tony Bertauski
Genre- YA/ Science Fiction
Publish Date- 31st of December 2011
Publisher- Self Published

Blurb- When kids awake on an island, they’re told there was an accident. Before they can go home, they will visit Foreverland, an alternate reality that will heal their minds. Reed dreams of a girl that tells him to resist Foreverland. He doesn’t remember her name, but knows he once loved her. He’ll have to endure great suffering and trust his dream. And trust he’s not insane. Danny Boy, the new arrival, meets Reed’s dream girl inside Foreverland. She’s stuck in the fantasy land that no kid can resist. Where every heart’s desire is satisfied. Why should anyone care how Foreverland works? Together, they discover what it’s really doing to them.

Review- I am struggling with how I feel about this book. For one, it took me forever to read, and not because of it's length. I literally fell asleep every time I tried to read it. It didn't really capture my attention. I found myself confused with the storyline for the first 65% of the book. I had no idea where it was going or what was happening half the time. It just seemed to drag. However once you pass the first 65% of the book it does start to get interesting. Major elements of the story start unfolding and we start to understand what is actually happening and why the boys are on this island in the first place. The last 35% of the book is quite fast paced and entertaining. It is just disappointing that I had to wait so long to start actually enjoying it.

The concept of the story however is really interesting. Without giving too much away, think of the movie "The Island". The concept is quite similar but with an insane and quite disturbing twist at the end.

As you can tell, my thoughts on The Annihilation of Foreverland are quite jumbled. I didn't like the first 3 quarters of it but I liked the concept and ending. I don't think this book is for everyone. If you're into Sci Fi then definitely give it a go but if not then it's probably best leave this one off of your TBR pile.

Shine Light Blog Tour: Charlonge

Welcome to the Shine Light blog tour. At each stop we’ll be revealing something new about the characters in Shine Light. What makes them tick? Do they have any secrets? Read on to find out . .
Occupation: Supervisor at Vank
Home: Lidol-Push
Special Characteristics: patient and responsible
Retra/Naif is so vulnerable and innocent when she arrives on Ixion that she needs a mentor, or a guide. Her shyness with boys suggested that this should be a slightly older or worldlier girl. I can’t remember how I came up with the name Charlonge, but it sounded good on my tongue (writers often practise words out loud!).
Charlonge however, is much more than just Naif’s caretaker. She has her own dreams and desires. Her background is quite different to the one Retra/Naif and Joel/Clash experience on Grave. She loves her parents and family and didn’t feel the need to escape them. What draws her to Ixion is her thirst for knowledge. She knows there is much more to the world than she had been taught and curiosity is her muse. In some ways she’s the bravest of them all, motivated by a need for intellectual knowledge rather than more visceral purposes like revenge and self-gratification. She risks everything for it.
Charlonge is attracted to Joel’s desire to be free of limitations but doesn’t like the fact the Dark Eve has channelled his energy into being her enforcer. She wants Joel to open his eyes to the true nature of freedom – see that it is gained through knowledge, not fighting. If I was to write an epilogue to the series, or indeed another series, it would feature Joel/Clash and Charlonge’s struggle to allow their feelings for each other to triumph over their different ways of living life. For truly, theirs is an enduring love.

Ixion. The island of ever-night.

If she had a choice, Naif wouldn’t go back. But her friends will die if she doesn’t find a cure for the badges that are slowly killing them, and her brother is there, fighting against the Ripers who hold everyone in thrall. And Naif has knowledge that might save them all.

First she must solve the mystery of Ixion’s eternal night. Then she must convince everyone – rebels and revellers alike – to join her cause. And all the while, she must fight the urge to go to Lenoir – her greatest love, her mortal enemy.

The secrets of Ixion must be revealed. The evils must be stopped. A new dawn will come.

Here’s a sneak peek of Shine Light . . .

(See if you missed the first stop)

She kept her recount spare, asking Markes for his opinion once or twice. He was next to Emilia, who sat stiffl y, terrifi ed yet trying not to show it.
‘When the Ripers drain us on Ixion, they don’t just do it to help them evolve the Night Creatures. Part of our lifeblood is used to make a youth elixir for the Elders. The Elders and the Ripers have a pact and have been working together for a long time. The Elders want young people to go to Ixion so that they can steal their youth.’
‘Barbaric!’ said Ruzalia, pounding the table. ‘Sinful!’ She stared at Naif, eyes narrowed. ‘I had wondered if they’d sought to shed themselves of the young dissidents in your city – those who may cause trouble – by letting them run away, but this is . . . this is even worse.’ She slapped her hand against her forehead. ‘And what of the other places from which the young come to Ixion? Lidol- Push? Are they part of this?’
‘No!’ said Charlonge hotly. ‘Our leaders would not do such a thing.’
‘How can you know?’ said Ruzalia.
‘I did not hear of any other places mentioned, but we should be careful. Who knows how far the Ripers have reached. Returning to any of them might be dangerous,’ said Naif. She glanced from her friend back to the pirate. ‘They seek to undermine you, Ruzalia. The beads the young ones on Sanctus possessed were given to Jud by your merchant at Port of Patience. The Chief Elder paid him to do it.’
‘Faranzo sold them to Jud?’
‘If that is your chief merchant’s name, then yes.’
‘You have done well to learn this. Better than I expected,’ said Ruzalia.
Despite her meal and her nap, Naif felt weary enough to die. Their fl ight though Grave, and the discovery that the people who governed her world were no more than cannibals feeding off their young, was too horrible to believe; the ugliest of truths, which had left her drained. ‘Any news from Sanctus and Ixion?’

Hey Ya'll, we're the next stop in the Fluttober Blog tour. I'm so happy to be apart of this tour I've been dying to get my hands on the book since I first read the blurb, the cover was just the icing on the cake.

Here's a little about the wonderful Author..

Melissa Andrea

I find it hard to sum up my life in a paragraph, but I’ll try.
Reading has always been a passion for me, and writing as instinctive as breathing. Every inhale is an idea; every exhale a creation. Flutter will be my debut release, and I couldn’t be more excited about it! The only thing I do better than writing you ask? Making beautiful girls. My daughter’s will always be my greatest accomplishment.
I was born in Denver, Colorado –but I will always think of sunny Arizona as my home. I don’t have a big family, but I’m close with my sister, brother & my mom. My mom is my hero, my inspiration, and I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing person to be raised by.
4 things you should know about me: I’m very girly, but I can get down and dirty with the best of them. I adore the color pink, I love things that sparkle (including vampires) and I like even numbers (hence 4 things about me, not 5)

Here's a few places you can stalk Melissa..

Review- Too Early For Flowers by Kurt Sipolski

Title- Too Early For Flowers
Author- Kurt Sipolski
Genre- Drama/ Memoir
Publish Date- 21st of March 2010
Publisher- Smashwords Inc

Blurb- Based on the published memoir, this novella reveals the intimate struggle of an American polio mother as she questions her ability and her faith until circumstances bring her life full circle.

Review- What a beautiful, touching story. Now I usually don't read books like this but I am so glad I read this one. Based on the true life events of Iris Sipolski and her family, Too Early For Flowers takes us on a journey of courage, love, heartache and determination, when her son Grayson is diagnosed with polio. Recently widowed with nowhere to go but back to her hometown and Mother, Iris and her sons not only have the struggles of  every day living during WW2, but all the struggles that come with having polio.

What touched me the most while reading Too Early For Flowers was the love and admiration Iris had for her sons. While raising them to be strong willed, independent young boys, she also managed to learn  a few things from them too. I was glued to the book from the moment I started it and didn't stop until I was finished.

This heartwarming story is one not to missed. Kurt has delivered a sensational memoir that will pull on your heart strings and warm your soul. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a heart.

Many thanks to Kurt for allowing me to review his beautiful story.

Book Review: Confessions Of An Angry Girl by Louise Rozett

Title: Confessions Of An Angry Girl
Author: Louise Rozett
Release Date: 28th August 2012
Published By: Harlequin Teen
Copy: ARC from Harlequin Teen Australia

Goodreads Description:

Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make 1. I'm livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I'm allowed to be irate, don't you?

2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is now enraged and out for blood. Mine.

3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and "seeing red" means being angry—get it?)

Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

(Don't know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)

(Sorry. That was rude.)

My Rating:

My Review: Firstly I'd like to thank Harlequin Teen Australia for sending me this book in return for an honest review.

With all the drama's at home and also at high school, you can understand why Rose is always angry, I would be angry too. With her father passing away, her brother going to college, her mother always busy or when they do talk she has her theropy voice on (lol), also a nasty (b*#ch) cheerleader who's out to get her. Even her best friend has joined the cheer squad from hell and Rose is worried she may be losing her best friend on top of everything else. There is alot of bullying going on and I'm happy that Rozett has the teachers taking action (or trying too). I know alot of schools out there don't do a damn thing or when they do it's too late. Rozett really brought the truth about what goes on behind those school walls and I liked that, made the story feel more real.

Finally she meets a certain hottie Jamie Forta (whistles), who makes her heart beat 100 beats a minute. Unfortunatly he's already taken, though that doesn't stop him from stealing a kiss from Rose (LOL He got kissed by a Rose). Ok, I'm getting off track lol! Their relationship is slowly blossoming into something special. *sigh*
I found Rose to be an amazing main character, her life might be in a bad spot but she keeps going and does the right thing, even if it kicks her in the butt later. I truly felt for her. Here I thought I went through hell in high school lol! Rose most definitely has one up on me!

I just loved this story! The characters are easy to relate too. I mean, we've all been through high school (or still in high school) and know the ups and downs, the good days and the bad ones. The story is well written, it gives you a little bit of everything (emotionally). I found myself always trying to finish what I was doing so I could keep reading lol! It's definitely a book you could finish in one sitting.

Congratulations to author Louise Rozett on an amazing debut novel. I look forward to the sequel Confessions Of An Almost Girlfriend and seeing where she'll take the story next.

Here's two quotes from the book, enjoy!

“Bad things happen whether you're scared or not, so you might as well not bother being scared. It's a waste of time.”

“The most acrobatic thing that goes on here is a synchronized hair flip.”

Review- Her Master's Kiss by Vivien Sparx

Title- Her Master's Kiss
Author- Vivien Sparx
Genre- Erotic Romance
Publication Date- 2nd of October 2012

Blurb- When Renee decides the only way she can save her relationship with a hurtful boyfriend is to become submissive, she enlists the expertise of a dark and brooding master.
However, Renee's training soon has her falling for master Stefan, and as she becomes immersed in the spellbinding erotic world of domination, Renee realizes she's infatuated with a man who remains mysteriously out of reach; a man who refuses to be loved.

Behind Stefan's cold, remote facade is a man dealing with his own past and his own pain.

'Her Master's Kiss' is an intense emotional romance story filled with passion, conflict and steamy erotica!

Review-  First of all I would like to mention how much of an honor it is to have this book dedicated to myself and Sassy Book Lovers. It really is an amazing gesture of gratitude that shows that our work doesn't go unnoticed. So thank-you so much for that Vivien Sparx.

Now onto the book itself. Vivien has given us a raw insight into the world of DOM/ sub relationships and from the very first page I couldn't help but think to myself "this is going to be very interesting". Each chapter is marked as the "Days" and lessons of the sub "course", which I love. There is this immediate connection with the main character Renee which comes in the form of  sympathy and pity that she feels the need to go through this for a man. So we can tick the box on emotional connection.

Throughout HMK, we are taken on a journey of, almost discovery of self worth, heartache and intense sexual tension. I was addicted to the story and her words and couldn't put it down until I was finished. I was left wanting more to the story. As I have said before, Vivien has the uncanny ability to capture her readers entirely even though her stories are only short. She truly is a remarkable young lady with extraordinary talent and you would be crazy not to read HMK and the other books Vivien has written.

So head on over to Amazon to purchase your copy of

While you're at it you can check out the following links to keep track of what Vivien has in store for you next. You can add her on:

Don't forget Vivien loves feedback and so do we so once you have finished reading HMK, let us know what you think!
