Book Review - Burn Bright by Marianne de Pierres

Title: Burn Bright
Author: Mairanne de Pierres
Release Date: 1st March 2011
Genre: Young Adult
Blurb: Into a world of wild secrets and deadly pleasures comes a girl whose innocence may be her greatest strength.

In Ixion music and party are our only beliefs. Darkness is our comfort. We have few rules but they are absolute . . .

Retra doesn’t want to go to Ixion, the island of ever-night, ever-youth and never-sleep. Retra is a Seal – sealed minds, sealed community. She doesn’t crave parties and pleasure, experience and freedom.

But her brother Joel left for Ixion two years ago, and Retra is determined to find him. Braving the intense pain of her obedience strip to escape the only home she’s ever known, Retra stows away on the barge that will take her to her brother.

When she can’t find Joel, Retra finds herself drawn deeper into the intoxicating world of Ixion. Come to me, whispers a voice in her head. Who are the Ripers, the mysterious guardians of Ixion? What are the Night Creatures Retra can see in the shadows? And what happens to those who grow too old for Ixion?

Retra will find that Ixion has its pleasures, but its secrets are deadly. Will friendship, and the creation of an eternal bond with a Riper, be enough to save her from the darkness?

Listen well, baby bats. Burn bright, but do not stray from the paths. Remember, when you live in a place of darkness you also live with creatures of the dark.

Review: When I first saw Burn Bright I was drawn in by the amazing cover. I'd heard so many great things about this book so i bought it and I wasn't disappointed.
Marianne has opened a new and exciting world, one that will suck you in and have you on the edge of your seat through the whole book.

When i started reading Burn Bright I wasn't sure what to think, this world is completely different to anything i've ever read. It's refreshing, phenomenally creative and takes you on a journey full of danger and suspence.

Twice a year a barge comes during the night to take the unhappy runaways to a world of  uninhibited freedom, with music and eternal pleasure. Where desires are acted upon without care.

Retra is not like the other young runaways taking the journey to Ixion, she only wants to find her brother Joel, who escaped Grave to find a life without restrictions. He's the only one she's ever been able to talk to freely and form a bond with.

Modesty is a sin.

For Retra being raised with her every move dictated by family and the council also having to wear a veil to conceal herself, this new world comes as a complete shock. Ixion changes Retra dramatically, she starts to open herself up to possiblities and friendship.

We get to meet some amazing secondary characters... Markes who is handsome, brave and a passionate musician. Cal she's just plain nasty! Suki, now she's just amazing! Just out to have fun and brighten her boring life. Rollo a courageous boy who's come to Ixion to uncover the truth.
Then we have the sexy Lenoir who's one of the Gardians of Ixion, he saves Retra's life and which fused a bond between them.

We are left in suspence waiting for Angel Arias book 2 of the series. Comes out late 2011

Australian Author Marianne de Pierres has done a fantastic job with her brilliant storytelling.
This is a book i could read over and over again and i would recommend this book to anyone.

Quote of the day

"If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all" ~ Oscar Wilde

Book Review- Afterlife an Evernight novel by Claudia Gray

Title: Afterlife Author: Claudia Gray Release: 8th of March 2011 Genre: YA Paranormal Rating: 9/10 Blurb: "Bianca and Lucas face a terrifying new reality: they have become whay they most feared. Lucas is a Vampire, and Bianca is a wraith. Together, they've overcome every obstacle life has thrown at them and fought pitched battles against enemies- mortal and otherwise. Now they must face their biggest challenge so far. They must discover if their love is strong enough to survive what comes after life..." Review: Without a doubt the best book of the Evernight series. In Afterlife we start off right where we left Lucas and Bianca in Hourglass. There was no going back and delving into the previous book, we are thrown straight into the action to continue the story. That was one of the best parts of the book. I get so frustrated when I read book series that always do a re-run of the previous book. We want to know what happens next already! Claudia Gray has really pushed her characters to their limits in Afterlife. Bianca has always been taught that wraiths are evil and to be feared, and now faces the rest of eternity as one. Learning that what she has known her whole life isn't exactly what it was made out to be and learning her purpose in this new found life is one of the journeys she takes through this book. There is an evil scheme behind her enrollement at Evernight Academy thats comes to the surface to shock everyone (including me). Lucas who also has grown up with the influences of others. Given perceptions about Vampires from "Black Cross" that also weren't entirely true. Their relationship is thrown every hard ball you can think of. Do they make it? That's for you to find out. Vic, Petrice, Balthazar, Dana and Raquel also have their strengths and weaknesses tested. All everyone had ever believed is not as it seems. The mixture of supernatural beings are amazing. It's not the usual vampire book where their natural enemy is the werewolf and sunlight is deadly. It's one that keeps you thinking the entire time. I found myself thinking about the possible outcomes even when I put the book down. It's a book that you dream about when you read it before bed. A story that doesn't leave your thoughts until you get to the ending and find out what happens and even then you think about the possibilites of an in between realm. What really happens in the after life? Do our loved ones that pass really have a hand in the outcome of our lives? This edge of your seat read is in one word AMAZING! Anyone who hasn't read it needs to go out and get the series, you will be blown away by this powerful story. It is sad of me to announce that this is the last book in the Evernight series. However, Claudia has decided to tell the story of Balthazar! And we all love him right. She will be taking us on his journey from his death to all of the adventures that follow. Keep your eyes peeled in March of 2012 for this one. For more information about Claudia Gray and her books head to her website: www.claudiagray.com Happy Reading! Renee

Title: Shadowland
Author: Alyson Noel
Release: 17th November 2009
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Blurb: Ever and Damen have traveled through countless past lives—and fought off the world's darkest enemies—so they could be together forever. But just as their long-awaited destiny is finally within reach, a powerful curse falls upon Damen...one that could destroy everything. Now a single touch of their hands or a soft brush of their lips could mean sudden death—plunging Damen into a bleak afterlife in the Shadowland, an eternal abyss for lost souls. Desperate to break the curse and save Damen, Ever immerses herself in magick—and gets help from an unexpected source...Jude Knight.
Although she and Jude have only just met, he feels startlingly familiar. Despite her fierce loyalty to Damen, Ever is drawn to Jude, a green-eyed golden boy with magical talents and a mysterious past. She's always believed Damen to be her soul mate and one true love—and she still believes it to be true. But as Damen pulls away to save them from the darkness inhabiting his soul, Ever's connection with Jude grows stronger—and tests her love for Damen like never before

Review: Were to begin....
To be brutally honest I was a little disappointed in this book. The other 2 in the series kept you on your toes and had you on the edge of your seat to know what's gonna happen next. I found this book didn't really take you anywhere new. Don't get me wrong, I love this series and I'll most definitely be reading the next book.

Shadowland picks up where Blue Moon left off. Immortals Damen and Ever have been cursed, any touch of DNA and Damen will die and get sent to the shadowlands, a murky underworld for lost souls.

As Ever starts to search for a cure for Damen, she meets Jude a gorgeous empath who loves to surf. Hmmm hottie alert! *giggles*

Ok, let's start with Ever, a typical hormonal teenage girl that is just prone to always making the wrong decisions. She really got on my nerves in this book, I kept waiting for her to learn from her mistakes but - sadly no.

Damen.. Damen.. Damen so gorgeous and sensitive yet...stupid!! What were you thinking mate?! You need to fight for the woman you love!! I must admit I had little giggles over the things he does in this book... him and his Karma. *shakes head* lol

We then have Roman a man who's out for revenge against Damen and Ever, he loves to play his games and is always one step ahead of them through everything. I seriously can't stand Roman, I'd just love to give him what for! lol

I would have loved for Haven and Miles to be in the story a bit more, they are just great characters and great friends to Ever. Sabine she's such a wonderful person, i'd love to have her as my Aunty! :)

Well that's pretty much it..short and sweet. Well, maybe not so sweet! lol

5 SASSY BOOKS!
Review: I was so lucky to have won this book during a comp on facebook. Kristine Cheney is just amazing, she's always there for her readers for any questions. She's simply inspirational! When you read this book you can't help getting swept up in her amazing story.

When I started reading "Spartan Heart" I was blown away with the emotion that is portrayed in the first couple of chapters. The book starts off at Evangeline's parents funeral, such sadness I was brought to tears. After that I just couldn't put the book down. It captures you and won't let you go till the very end and even then you are wanting more. You are taken for a journey through a world of powerful romance full of magic and wonder. There are so many twists and turns it'll always keep you on your toes.

Dorien and Evangeline...well who wouldn't want to be in their situation?! Kristine has really captured the passion between them, I swear it could melt the butter off your knife! lol  Dorien's just so dreamy...every womans fantasy man and Evangeline she's strong, caring and just wanted to be loved.

The secondary characters were all great, in their individual way. Demona is the typical crazy bady... It was great seeing a female play the bad guy....yay! *winks* Then there is her creepy minion Phebus, who just gives me the heebie jeebies. We also meet Eliza, such a loving and caring person. And finally Taryn... who is just awesome! I'd love to have her over for a cuppa anyday! *giggles* The way she is with Evan, she's loyal and funny as hell. But also like a big sister that would do anything to protect you.

The only downer is that it came to an end, but great news...
"Spartan Heart P2" Is out the 5th of April 2011...YAY!! :)

Book Review- Crescendo by Becca Roberts Fitzpatrick

Title: Crescendo
Author: Becca Roberts Fitzpatrick
Release Date: 19th of October 2010
Genre: Paranormal YA Novel
Blurb: "Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it. But Patch has been acting anything but angelic lately. He's more elusive than ever and, even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.
Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, and old family friend who's moved back to town, if Patch hadn't been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him- despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.
Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her Nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations as she searches for answers. But some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything- and everyone- she trusts."
Rating: 8/10 Definately worth reading,
Review: The greatly anticipated sequel to "Hush Hush" I must say has not disappointed. The mind boggling storyline has you guessing from the very begining, "why is he doing that?", "who is behind that?" Only to be thrown at the end by a completely unexpected turn of events that has you thinking "why on earth did I not see this coming?"
During the first three quarters of the book you may find yourself silently screaming at Nora for being a self pitying, spineless, immature little brat as I did, which if I may add was so frustrating to read. She drove me crazy! Mix this with Patch and his lack of being able to say how he feels, Marcie and her annoying taunting and bullying and Scott with his beefhead attitude you have a serious mixture of rival personalities and the heated emotions of raging teenage hormones.
Not wanting to throw you off reading this book, it really is a great. One I would definately recommend if you are into this genre and of course if you loved "Hush Hush".
Is there another sequel? Yes!
"Silence" is due to be released on the 4th of October 2011. With thanks to Becca's official fansite www.fallenarchangel.com this is what she had to say about third installment. " The noise between Patch and Nora is gone in this book. They've overcome the secrets riddles in Patch's dark past... bridged two irreconcilable worlds... faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust... and all for a love that will transcend the boudary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they've worked for and their love forever".
If you haven't read "Hush Hush" yet you don't know what you are missing. The sequel is even better!
