Release Blitz - Flip a Coin by Hanleigh Bradley

Flip A Coin

(Organised Crime #1)
Author - Hanleigh Bradley
Release Date - 24th November 2019
Price - $4.00

When Mob Boss, Olivia Dixon's twin sister Emily suddenly goes missing, Olivia is hellbent on not just rescuing her but destroying the people responsible, no matter who that ends up being.

A guilt-ridden Olivia is convinced that they've got the wrong sister. After all, Emily's life is pretty tame by comparison. Instead of working with knives and guns, she teaches five-year-old kids how to spell.

In a last ditch attempt to find her, Olivia takes her sister's place; at work, with friends and perhaps more importantly even in Emily's husband's bed.

Fancy Reading Some?

“Don’t think it,” Jack mutters from where he’s sat opposite me at the breakfast bar, drinking a cup of tea.

The house is quieter now, most of the guys having been sent off on various errands, mostly just so that I can have a second’s peace to right my thoughts.

I glance up at my Uncle, opening my mouth to tell him to mind his own business. I want to lose my temper with someone and he’s right here. I want to tell him that he has no fucking idea what I’m thinking.

The clear and precise logic that has gotten me through the last few hours is now gone and my temper is definitely frayed.

“You’re thinking that if she’s not pressed the panic button by now,” he begins.

“That’s not what I’m thinking at all,” I retort angrily.

“You’re also thinking that if we haven’t received a ransom yet…” He says it so matter-of-factly, far easier than I’d be able to.

“What do you mean?” Todd asks.

Glancing across the room to where he had until a moment ago been pacing back and forth, I grimace.

“Jack is just talking shit,” I say, lying as easily as I always do. “It means nothing. He’s reading into stuff without any fucking evidence.”

“Like you’re not doing the same bloody thing,” Jack says testily.

“Good job you’re my Uncle,” I say, holding his eye for longer than he’d like. As family, Uncle Jack has always gotten away with more than my other subordinates, but that doesn’t mean he can be disrespectful.

He bows his head slightly, his tone immediately changing. “Sorry, boss.”

It doesn’t matter how long I’ve had the job; I still hate that word. Like I’m some big, bad mob boss out for blood. I shake my head. The last thing I want is to argue with Jack. I like the fact he calls me on my shit. It’s not something I want to discourage. I just don’t want to deal with the real possibility that my sister might be dead.

I reach over the breakfast bar and pat his elbow, before pointedly looking at Todd, giving him the silent message that I don’t know how much we should be telling Emily’s husband.

His eyes soften with new understanding. He forgets that I have a soft heart sometimes. They all do. They’ve seen me kill people so I guess it’s understandable.

Sighing, I decide to bite the bullet. I take a breath before turning to Todd.

“Remember how I told you about the panic button?” I don’t know why I’m asking such an obvious question. He’s not stupid. Although in fairness I don’t actually know that. I know next to nothing about him, except that his name is Todd.

He nods his head, his impatience showing on his face.

“The fear is that if she hasn’t pressed it yet, that either she’s somewhere where the GPS won’t get a signal or they’ve taken it from her.”

“Okay,” he replies. “Those options don’t sound great but they’re not dreadful.

“The other option is that she’s already dead,” I say bluntly and his eyes all but pop out of their sockets.

“What?” he splutters.

Deliver good news leisurely and bad news hurriedly, that’s what my mum always said. She said it was akin to pulling off a plaster and giving a kiss. You don’t peel off a plaster teasingly any more than you’d ever rush a kiss.

“That’s the fear,” I say. “It doesn’t make it any more or less likely than it was two hours ago.”

His expression tells me he would have preferred I told him two hours ago.

“We should call the police.”

“They won’t be able to do anything that we’re not already doing,” I tell him. “In fact, there are things I can do that they can’t.”

“Like what?” he demands heatedly, slamming his fist on the breakfast bar.

“Illegal things. Hacking. Paying for information. Hitting people for information. Murder, if necessary.” I say it all as if I do those sort of things every day, which of course, I don’t. I mean I deal in illegal arms and I’ve occasionally gotten into the drug trade and okay, yes, I’ve killed a few people over the years, but I’m not… I’m not really sure how I’d like to finish that thought. I’m not a monster? A bad person?

I don’t like the look in his eyes. He’s judging me and usually, that wouldn’t bother me, but strangely I really don’t want my sister’s husband to hate me.

“Off point much?” Jack barks irritably. “More important than all that is the fact we’ve still not had a ransom.”

“So?” Todd asks, his eyes still on me.

I don’t want to tell him. I don’t want to say the words.

“It’s highly likely,” I grit my teeth, “that whoever took Emily mistook her for me.”

“And?” He’s glaring at me. If he hates me now, it will be twice as bad in a second.

“If that’s the case, they most likely won’t be after money,” I tell him. “It’ll be revenge.”

“You’re saying they’re going to kill her?”

“I’m saying that it’s highly probable that she may already be dead,” I say, my voice catching. Or being tortured to within an inch of her life, I finish in my head.

“However,” Jack chimes in, in what can only be described as false bravado, “the fact that we’ve not received a bragging photo of Emily’s corpse is very reassuring.”

“What the fuck?” Todd practically shouts at the same time I lung for my Uncle Jack.

I mean he’s right, but did he really have to say it like that.

“What the hell is wrong with you people?” Todd is now on a full-on rant and I don’t have the energy to try and calm him down.

Blog Tour and Review- Unspoken Words by K.M. Golland

UW - BT banner

This is a story of unspoken words and how loud they can be.

Unspoken Words, “a wonderful story of first love, first heartbreak” from K.M. Golland is available now!

Unspoken Words - E-Cover

Connor Bourke and I met when we were twelve years old. He was a quiet boy with so much to say and only one way to say it—through song. He’d lost his best friend to cancer, so I showed him there was love and life in loss, and to hold on to his memories, always.
Eloise Mitchell was a blazing fire when my world turned dark. She’d shined so bright and burned so fierce that the wall I’d built around myself simply melted to the ground at her feet.
We shared everything together:
Our first kiss,
first love,
first mistake,
and first regret.
She taught me to speak,
to forgive,
and to never forget.
Through his music, he could say all he needed to say except for, ‘I love you’.
I could never tell her those three words.
Yet, I knew he meant them, that he loved me beyond all measure, beyond time
… beyond a broken heart.
I loved her more than anything.
Our bond was unbreakable.
Our love was ever after.
But, then, we tend to destroy the ones we love most.
And all bonds break, especially when the heart is what holds them together.

My #1 Book for 2019!

I have been a HUGE fan of KM for many years. Ever since I was asked to review her first book, Temptation. Since then, I don't have to know what her books are about to want to read them. She's just that author for me. If her name is on it, SIGN. ME. UP!
She draws me in with her addictive storylines, witty lingo, and staying true to her Aussie self.

Unspoken Words was no different, but at the same time, it was.
In the best way.

We meet Connor and Eloise as young kids, who connect when Connor was at his lowest, having lost his best friend. We follow them through friendship, through their young love, through their heartbreaking times and through their all consuming love for each other. Each part more intense than the last. Now let me tell you, it was INTENSE!

KM delivered the most beautiful, yet soul crushing story I have ever read!
It is perfectly bitter sweet.

I turned that final page with tears streaming down my face and what felt like an elephant sitting on my chest. This book left me and emotional mess and physically hurting to the point where I messaged KM and told her that I hate her. In that moment I think I did. I mean, how dare she put me through that! But I don't really hate her. I love her. I love her words, I love her mind, and I love how she was able to make me feel every single emotion, even the shitty ones.
Only the best writers can.

So grab a box of tissues to wipe those tears, both happy and sad, get this book, and snuggles up and dive in. You won't regret it. KM might, with the amount of threats of violence that are sure to come her way. Don't actually hurt her though, we need her to keep writing her amazing words.

Unspoken Words - Get burned

“Eloise.” Connor’s hand shot out and clasped mine. “Don’t leave.” “Please let go. I can’t stay here right now. I need air.” He didn’t quite chuckle but waved his hand at the space around us instead. “There’s plenty of air.” “Yeah, but you’re stealing it,” I choked out, unable to hold back my tears. “You’re always stealing my air.” “What are you talking about?” “You!” I shrugged out of his clasp so that I could point my trembling finger at him. “You breathe air into me and then you steal it, and I’m left gasping. Why do you do that? Why can’t you just let me breathe with you?” Connor’s wide eyes searched mine, darting from side to side like a ball in a pinball machine. He looked so lost and helpless, and stupid, so I elaborated. “Every second we are together, I feel alive. Every kiss, every touch, every unspoken word breathes life into me and I tether myself to it, afraid to let go. But then you refuse to tell me how you truly feel with the words you were given, words I know you can damn well say and choose not to, and it sucks that air right back out of me, and I … I can’t breathe.” He closed his eyes, his shoulders sagging. “Why’s it so hard for you to say?” Connor didn’t respond. He just kept his eyes pressed shut, as if I weren’t even there, and it ripped me in two. “JUST SAY IT,” I shouted. “Just tell me you love me. I know you do.” “If you know I do then why do you need to hear it?” “Because some words mean so much. Some words need to be heard and spoken.” “Not those.” “Of course those. They’re the most important three words anyone can say.” “No, baby, you’re wrong.” Connor opened his eyes, grasped my arms, and pulled me to sit on his lap, securing me tightly, his finger tracing a heart over my own. “My love for you goes beyond what words can say and do, so yeah, I choose not to say them. Those three words are empty where we’re concerned.” I sobbed. “But I need to hear them.” “You don’t,” he whispered, pressing his palm over my heart and placing my palm over his, the pressure firm, both of our hands unmoving. “Do you feel that?” A reverberating beat travelled through my body into his and from his into mine, our pressed hands a bridge, one beginning where one ended. We begin where we end. What I’d written in my notebook before we made love hit me like a truck, and I jolted and gasped. “What, Eloise? What’s wrong?” “I get it.” “Get what?” “I get that you don’t want to say what you feel or that some words to you are empty. I get that, deep down, we don’t need words to prove our love, that what’s in here,” I said, massaging my fingers into his chest, “and here,” I added, twitching my other hand over my breast, “speak for us.” A small smile crept across his face. “But,” I continued, “words mean a lot to me. You know that. They’re not empty where I’m concerned. They could never be empty.” He sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “If you want words so desperately, I’ll give you words. But they’ll be my words. No one else’s.” “All I’ve ever wanted was your words, Connor Burke.” “Okay,” he said, cupping my face. “You’re. My. Ever. After.” A tear spilled down my cheek. They weren’t the words I’d expected him to say and, yet, to him, they meant more. They meant always and forever. They were perfect. Sinking into his arms, I let Connor cradle me for what felt like an eternity, and I realised in that moment that an eternity with him would never be long enough, that always and forever was too short.
