This Highland Laird won’t bow to the Crown

Laird Ruairi Sutherland refuses to send his only son away to be educated by the English. And he most definitely will not appear in Edinburgh to pay homage to a liege who has no respect for Scotland. So he does what any laird would do—he lies to the king. The last thing Ruairi expects is a beautiful English governess to appear on his doorstep.

But this lady spy might make him...

Lady Ravenna Walsingham is a seasoned spy who is sent to the savage Highlands to uncover a nefarious plot against the Crown. Playing the part of an English governess—a job easier said than done—she infiltrates the home of Laird Sutherland, a suspected conspirator.

If she doesn’t betray him first

Ravenna soon discovers that the only real threat Sutherland poses is to her heart. But will the proud Highland laird ever forgive her when he discovers the woman he loves in an English spy?

Interview with Victoria Roberts

What or who inspired you to become a writer?

I’ve always dabbled with writing since I was about sixteen years old. I loved to write short stories. But after reading Hannah Howell, Lynn Kurland and Karen Marie Moning in my early thirties, I found my calling.

Who is your favorite Author & what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Oh, I don’t just have one. I have several such as: Hannah Howell, Lynn Kurland, Karen Marie Moning, Brenda Joyce, Sabrina Jeffries and Janet Chapman. To name a few! All of them strike a chord with me from heartfelt love stories, haughty Englishwomen and time-traveling Highlanders.

What was the hardest part about writing your book?

Finding time to write. I have a full-time day job, a husband and two kids in sports. Life in the Roberts’ household can be a little hectic at times.

What was your favorite chapter to write and why?

I loved writing all the scenes about my heroine spying on my hero. She’s so torn between duty to the Crown and her feelings toward the laird.

What was the most surprising things you’ve learned in writing your book?

Writing emotional scenes involving a child (not giving spoilers) is very difficult, not only as a writer but as a parent.

Do you ever experience writer’s block?

Yes. I step away for a day or two, regroup, and come back with a fresh perspective. So far, I’ve managed to overcome any kind of writing obstacles. *knock on wood*

What is the last book you read?

Grace Burrowes wrote a fabulous tale called The Laird.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. with whom would it be?

I don’t think I’d want to trade places with anyone, but I’d love to live in a castle in Scotland for a week. Mmm…maybe the wife of a laird?

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

Sleep.

Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

I do use a small bit of my personal experiences in all my books. For instance, in Temptation in a Kilt Rosalia’s BFF James is based on my childhood BFF Jimmy. We always used to tease like that. Still do.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A famous singer/songwriter. I was a dreamer. And as my kids remind me, I’m no Adele. lol

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?

Angelina Jolie—kidding. I have no idea.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Never give up. “All dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” –Walt Disney

Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers and fans?

Thank you for being the best part of what I do.

When was the last time you cried over a book?

I actually cried writing my own book. There’s a scene with my hero and his son… Enough said.

Some quick questions..

Light or Dark chocolate?

Light

 Sunrise or Sunset?

Sunset

Dogs or Cats?

Dogs

Tea or Coffee?

Tea

Favorite Colour?

 Blue

Name 5 of your fictional crushes as of right now?

Only Jamie Frasier right now. I think he’d be more than I can handle.

—Hannah Howell, New York Times bestselling author of Highland Master

“Roberts’ newest features a surprise-laden, quick-paced plot, replete with unconventional and fiercely independent characters. Her lyrical prose grabs readers’ attention, and the high level of emotional tension simply adds to the depth of the story. This book begs to be read and reread.”
