Review- What an introduction to the life of an American Cop! CurbChek- Reload is a book full of  events that Zach Fortier has experienced during his time as a Police Officer. It was like reading episodes of Law and Order and let me tell you, he didn't hold back on the details at all! The gruesome true stories were a shock to the system as he recalled every single detail of the horrific events he encountered ranging from drug related crimes to rape crimes and everything in between. 

Zach Fortier is a copper who seems to like going solo. Going on calls alone unless its absolutely necessary for back-up. He is also the type that will do the morally right thing as oppose to what the system thinks is right. In other words he's not a dick who flaunts his badge. He's the type of cop that you can respect.

Throughout the book I found myself having all kinds of reactions and feelings with every story he told. I was shocked, disgusted, appalled, and sad. Add in the fact that these are all true stories, makes it all the more worse. It's definitely cementing the fact that humans are one effed up race.

One thing that stuck out most was how Zach handles each and every call-out he gets. He's professional yet takes things personally. He has a tough skin on the outside but still has feelings. I don't know how he does what he does. I sure couldn't do it! So thank-you Zach for opening my eyes to what really happens out there in the real world. 

Crime novels aren't usually my pick of genre but I am so glad I read CurbChek- Reload. It was a real eye opener that I could not put down. I would recommend to anyone who can handle raw and honest stories. Really not a book for the softies.

Review- If I could grovel at Vivien's feet I probably would! She has once again created a story that captured me entirely. Greatest thing you learned at school.

The greatest thing I learned at school was how to get along with people. It wasn’t an easy lesson. I was shunned in the 6th grade, but befriended by a very tall girl who was also shunned, and I learned about kindness and humility. I’ve realized as I’ve grown older, take any group of people in any environment, and there will always be certain personalities and dynamics. I saw it at school, at work, in social groups.
There’s always a leader, that one person who everyone turns to when there’s a question of how to go forward, whether it’s a project at work, how to treat the new guy at school, or where we should go to dinner for so-and-so’s birthday. It’s a huge responsibility to be the leader, and some are up to the task, and others aren’t. This is where the mean girl mentality comes into play. If the dominant personality in a group tends toward cruelty, the dynamics change. Everyone follows out of fear. If the leader is compassionate and giving, others follow with admiration and enthusiasm.
There are others I’ve found in every group:
The know-it-all, who can sometimes turn into Debbie Downer. Whatever the group is doing, this guy will spout off about why it won’t work, or what’s wrong with it.
The not-quite-ready-for-prime-time guy, who might be slightly less intelligent, or preoccupied, so he never knows what’s actually happening. This is the guy who’s always late to class/meetings/dinner, because he was watching Myth Busters or Johnny Quest. He says inappropriate things and never has a clue he’s just offended everyone in the room. He’s loveable, however, so everyone puts up with him.
The Beautiful One. Guy or girl, this is the one who gets a pass for anything because of their stunning good looks. We want to be mad at them for dropping the ball on this group assignment, but they’re just so pretty – who could stay mad at that face?
The so-sweet-it-makes-your-teeth-hurt guy. This is a person who never has an unkind thing to say about anyone. They make you think of your granny, or Mary Poppins. They’re usually the one who suggests it’s not a good idea to tease another group member about their bad hair day. This is the one who knows everyone’s bad stuff, who people turn to for comfort.
The smart one. This is the guy everyone envies because he aces chemistry after hanging out half the night at your house playing video games and drinking eleventy million Red Bulls. You got a C – he got an A. He’ll go to med school and become a brain surgeon and all the other brain surgeons in his group will wonder how he gets so much done. We want to hate him, but he’s so laid back about his genius, we can’t.
The Peacemaker. This person has a future as a diplomat, they’re so good at smoothing all the ruffled feathers.
I knew ALL these people in school. I moved groups as time passed and found my own niche of friends in high school, one of which was the maid of honor in my wedding and I’m godmother to her son. She was the Peacemaker. Our Beautiful One grew into a more beautiful woman, married a rich guy, had four little girls, and was taken by breast cancer a year after the fourth was born. The smart one got a degree in archeology, then chucked it all and became a carpenter, married an earth mama and had a son he named Atticus. I lost touch with the know-it-all and not-ready-for-prime-time.
You don’t realize as you’re growing up and going to school that you’re learning a lot more than algebra and world history. You’re also learning how to live in the world and make nice with your fellow humans.

Reisz hasn't delivered us the typical romance erotica at all, so if that's what you're looking for, forget it. Reisz delves into the dark world of DOM/ sub relationships and shows us a different side to the world of the most recent popular book genre of today's readers. 

As sick and twisted and disturbing as some of the scenes were, and no matter how many times I said to myself "I can't believe I am reading this", I enjoyed every minute of this book. Nora is one effed up woman! I loved her character. She's quirky, crazy, intense and all kinds of screwed up. Zach is reined in and careful. Put the two together and watch the drama unfold.


I couldn't help but feel sorry for Nora. She's like an addict, not wanting to live that life any more but it's the only thing she knows so she keeps going back. 

I don't want to give anything away so it's hard for me to try and explain but I guarantee you that not only is the storyline intriguing but so are the characters. It is the perfect recipe for a phenomenal read. And what a phenomenal read it is. I highly recommend The Siren to all erotica lovers and anyone just that little bit ballsy.

Review- I am struggling with how I feel about this book. For one, it took me forever to read, and not because of it's length. I literally fell asleep every time I tried to read it. It didn't really capture my attention. I found myself confused with the storyline for the first 65% of the book. I had no idea where it was going or what was happening half the time. It just seemed to drag. However once you pass the first 65% of the book it does start to get interesting. Major elements of the story start unfolding and we start to understand what is actually happening and why the boys are on this island in the first place. The last 35% of the book is quite fast paced and entertaining. It is just disappointing that I had to wait so long to start actually enjoying it.

The concept of the story however is really interesting. Without giving too much away, think of the movie "The Island". The concept is quite similar but with an insane and quite disturbing twist at the end.

As you can tell, my thoughts on The Annihilation of Foreverland are quite jumbled. I didn't like the first 3 quarters of it but I liked the concept and ending. I don't think this book is for everyone. If you're into Sci Fi then definitely give it a go but if not then it's probably best leave this one off of your TBR pile.

Retra/Naif is so vulnerable and innocent when she arrives on Ixion that she needs a mentor, or a guide. Her shyness with boys suggested that this should be a slightly older or worldlier girl. I can’t remember how I came up with the name Charlonge, but it sounded good on my tongue (writers often practise words out loud!).

Charlonge however, is much more than just Naif’s caretaker. She has her own dreams and desires. Her background is quite different to the one Retra/Naif and Joel/Clash experience on Grave. She loves her parents and family and didn’t feel the need to escape them. What draws her to Ixion is her thirst for knowledge. She knows there is much more to the world than she had been taught and curiosity is her muse. In some ways she’s the bravest of them all, motivated by a need for intellectual knowledge rather than more visceral purposes like revenge and self-gratification. She risks everything for it.

Charlonge is attracted to Joel’s desire to be free of limitations but doesn’t like the fact the Dark Eve has channelled his energy into being her enforcer. She wants Joel to open his eyes to the true nature of freedom – see that it is gained through knowledge, not fighting. If I was to write an epilogue to the series, or indeed another series, it would feature Joel/Clash and Charlonge’s struggle to allow their feelings for each other to triumph over their different ways of living life. For truly, theirs is an enduring love.

She kept her recount spare, asking Markes for his opinion once or twice. He was next to Emilia, who sat stiffl y, terrifi ed yet trying not to show it.
‘When the Ripers drain us on Ixion, they don’t just do it to help them evolve the Night Creatures. Part of our lifeblood is used to make a youth elixir for the Elders. The Elders and the Ripers have a pact and have been working together for a long time. The Elders want young people to go to Ixion so that they can steal their youth.’
‘Barbaric!’ said Ruzalia, pounding the table. ‘Sinful!’ She stared at Naif, eyes narrowed. ‘I had wondered if they’d sought to shed themselves of the young dissidents in your city – those who may cause trouble – by letting them run away, but this is . . . this is even worse.’ She slapped her hand against her forehead. ‘And what of the other places from which the young come to Ixion? Lidol- Push? Are they part of this?’
‘No!’ said Charlonge hotly. ‘Our leaders would not do such a thing.’
‘How can you know?’ said Ruzalia.
‘I did not hear of any other places mentioned, but we should be careful. Who knows how far the Ripers have reached. Returning to any of them might be dangerous,’ said Naif. She glanced from her friend back to the pirate. ‘They seek to undermine you, Ruzalia. The beads the young ones on Sanctus possessed were given to Jud by your merchant at Port of Patience. The Chief Elder paid him to do it.’
‘Faranzo sold them to Jud?’
‘If that is your chief merchant’s name, then yes.’
‘You have done well to learn this. Better than I expected,’ said Ruzalia.
Despite her meal and her nap, Naif felt weary enough to die. Their fl ight though Grave, and the discovery that the people who governed her world were no more than cannibals feeding off their young, was too horrible to believe; the ugliest of truths, which had left her drained. ‘Any news from Sanctus and Ixion?’
