Title: The Immortal Rules (Blood Of Eden #1)
Author: Julie Kagawa
Release Date: 24th April 2012
Published by: Harlequin Teen
Genre: YA, Paranormal
Goodreads Summary:
In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die
or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn’t easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.
My Rating: A MUST READ!!
My Review: Firstly I'd like to thank Harlequin Teen Australia & NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
Ok, were to start... WOW! One word comes to mind... BRILLIANT!!! Julie Kagawa has done it again! She simply ceases to amaze me. I'm a huge fan of her Iron Fey books and was so excited to hear she was writing something new.
Julie's truly awe-inspiring writing style brings to life another exciting new world to devour. Such a fresh change to other vampire books I've read, I was drawn in right from the beginning and was clinging on for dear life with every turn of the page.
The characters are strong and very well written, they all bring their own awesomeness to the story.
Allie she's the lead female character. She fights to stay alive from vampires, rabids & rebels, while having to scavenge around for food. She still manages to look after her "friend" Stick (I won't get into his character cause he just simply got on my nerves and needs a good slappin). I truly feel for her when she clings to her old life and realizes the truth, she can never go back to the way things were.
We meet Kanin "The Vampire" he helps Allie start her new life as a vampire. Teaches her everything he can on how to survive. He's very secretive and has a few skeletons in his closet that he trys to keep hidden. Can't wait to see were Julie goes with his character!
When Allie leaves the vampire's city walls, she meets a group of people trying to find a certain mystical place where vampires & rabids can't roam. In this group she meets Zeke a gorgeous boy who see's the world through different eyes, he's just full of compassion and tries to help anyone he can even if it puts his own life in danger.
I loved how Allie & Zeke's characters feelings grow and become something worth fighting for. *sigh*
Well done Julie, you've truly awoken the horrors within with this astounding story, I look forward to the next book and seeing where you'll be taking us next.
Make sure you add this book to your TBR piles & wishlists cause this is an adventure your really gonna want to sink your teeth into! A MUST READ!!

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa is what I would define as a vampire, post-apocalyptic, survival-horror. Set in a world where the human population has been decimated by a plague and the attempts of a cure. Human beings have been reduced to becoming bottom links on a food chain that leads up to soulless vampires and the devolved rapids. There is no democracy, no human Government, and no civil society; what once was has now become a country filled with ghost towns and walled up cities where vampires rule the streets and rapids roam the outer wilderness.
ReplyDeleteI'm dying to read this! I have heard wonderful things about this book! Great review =)
