Blurb: How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.
My Rating: A Keeper
My Review: OMG this book literally blew me away. I'd heard so many great things about it and I entered every contest Josephine had to win an ARC copy (which I did) yay!! By the time I recieved it here in Australia it was so close to release date, but I have finally read it and am completely in love with this book. The cover is just to die for.
I just loved how Josephine wove Greek Mythology into her story. I never really studied Greek Mythology, but I remember learning a little about it in history class in high school and also through watching Hurcules and Zina on telly *giggles* I have to admit Hurcules was one of my fav shows when I was younger. Also through the movie Troy with Brad Pitt loved Helen of Troy *winks*
Josephine did an amazing job, this book was so well written the characters are just awesome! This book has so many twists and turns you'll be on the edge of your seat wanting to keep reading to find out what happens next. This book is most definitely A Keeper.
Well done Josephine on an awesome debut novel.
I'd so love to be a DemiGod *winks*
I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

ReplyDeleteOh man. I LOVED Starcrossed! Ican't wait to get started on Dreamless!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read this book! I LOVE demigods!
ReplyDeleteawesome review...this book seems REALLY amazing...hope to read it one day
ReplyDeleteI agree, Starcrossed is definitely a 'keeper', a book with a fantastic plot and amazing characters. When I first read Starcrossed shortly after it came out, I nearly cried when I realized Dreamless was only being released in May 2012. For those who haven't read Starcrossed yet, you are missing out (especially if, like me, you're a fan of mythology)!
ReplyDeleteThis book is so absolutely fantastic, I didn't read it, I literally snorted it like crack! The pages kept turning, and I keep getting invested. I laughed out loud, I shed tears...it was an emotional roller coaster. But also, it was so action-packed and fast paced, I felt like I was reading a Marvel comic, rather than a Young Adult fiction novel. I am sure parallels can be, and will be, drawn between Twilight and Starcrossed...but I can safely say that I was far more impressed with the writing and the characterization in Starcrossed than I was by the first book in the Twilight series, and I enjoyed Starcrossed far more. So Stephanie Meyers, you better watch your back, because a new diva is about to take the Young Adult literary genre by storm!!! Also, this book includes a lot of info on Greek Mythology, but author Josephine Angelini has done the subject justice, and the myths and legends are seamlessly incorporated into the storyline.
ReplyDeleteYay for Starcrossed! I like that this book wasn't another Hades and Persephone re-write. There are SOOOO many out there. I definitely liked the idea of this book. The beginning was FIERCE. I mean, how about all those "Let's kill each other!" vibes! I thought that was creepy and awesome. I like the names thing. But the end killed me. It's one of the reasons I haven't read Dreamless yet. Especially since I've heard that Dreamless introduces another guy, and thus, a love triangle. Ugh. I'll read it evetually. Thanks for the review! So glad you like this book too :)
