Love, life, and happily ever after? It’s all relative.

Marine biology student Emma Pierce lives in paradise—geographically speaking, anyway. Stranded on Sanibel Island, Florida, she works at a nursing home by day and spends her nights dodging the island’s infamous bad boy, Jackson Taylor, at her favorite karaoke bar. Trying to heal from the loss of her sister and a failed relationship she rerouted her life for, she’s ready to graduate and finally leave Florida behind.

When a run-in with Jackson and his rowdy crew goes sour at the bar one night, sparks fly and irreversible damage is done. It’s no secret that Jackson loves to get underneath her skin, but this time he’s gone too far. Now all he wants is to earn her forgiveness before she’s gone for good, but their ideas of closure—and the future—are enough to keep them worlds apart.

"A day in the life of Rachael Wade."

Every writer seems to have their own groove. A routine that works for them. Some writers work at all hours of the night and no two days are ever the same. That is one cool thing about this profession—it’s unpredictable. Sometimes inspiration strikes at 1 a.m. and I have to hop out of bed and rush to my laptop to jot a scene or dialogue down before I forget it. Other days I’ll write all day and be ready to crash by 10 p.m. It all depends, and that’s something I love about my job—it’s always different, from one day to the next.

When it comes to life outside of work, though, my day is pretty mundane. I actually like routine—to an extent—and have worked hard to establish one at home. Otherwise my chores would never get done, I’d never have time to relax, and my work life would be a lot more chaotic. That being said, this is what a typical day looks like for me. Please, try and hold back the enthusiasm, guys. I know this is exciting stuff, but control yourselves, okay?

  • Wake up (I have the most obnoxious alarm clock ever, for the record.)
  • Take care of the fur babies (4 cats and a dog. That’s a lot of fur.)
  • Check/respond to emails
  • Eat breakfast (See? Exciting, right?)
  • Workout
  • Shower
  • Respond to more emails
  • Tinker around with social media
  • Respond to more emails (Seriously.)
  • Work on marketing
  • Eat lunch (Sometimes accompanied by an episode of Grey’s Anatomy)
  • Write
  • Write
  • Write

Eventually, the husband comes home, the animals need attention again, it’s dinner time, and the sun begins to go down. That’s (usually) when I call it quits for the day and begin to enjoy some downtime. I like to catch up on a favorite show with the hubby (currently it’s Breaking Bad), take the dog for a long stroll, make a cup of tea and grab a hot bath, read, then rinse and repeat.
When I’m not writing or busy with normal day-to-day stuff, I love going to concerts, watching indie films, being outdoors, and reading. I love being outside and getting some fresh air. Some days are more interesting than others, but one thing is certain: Writing fiction always keeps things interesting. ;)
