Sneak Peek - Inappropriate by Vi Keeland

Excited about Vi Keeland’s upcoming release, Inappropriate?

Check out this SNEAK PEEK

I wondered if he’d be here.
I was mid-conversation with some former colleagues I hadn’t seen in a few years when I got my answer. The sight of him made me lose my train of thought.
On the other side of the room, Grant Lexington stood wearing a classic black tuxedo. He was talking to an older gentleman, which gave me the opportunity to really take him in—tall, broad shoulders, yet not overly bulky, a narrow waist with one hand resting casually in his pants pocket. Even from a distance, his confidence registered. There was something about the way certain men held themselves that showed they were in charge, and that really worked for me. It could take a man who was a seven and make him an eleven in my book. On the other hand, a handsome ten with a meek personality could be reduced to a five.
Mr. Confident held a drink in his left hand and raised it to his mouth, but he stopped before drinking. He seemed to sense something and looked around the room. When his eyes caught mine, a slow, wicked smile spread across his face. He excused himself from the conversation and strode toward me.
My body tingled as I watched him approach with long strides, and I turned from the group I’d been standing with.
“What a pleasant surprise,” he said.
I tried to appear casual as I sipped my champagne. “I’m filling in for Bickman.”
He nodded. “Of course.”
Grant eyed the group next to me. “Are you here with a date?”
“No. You?”
He smiled and shook his head. “Would a compliment be unwelcome? I wouldn’t want to sexually harass you.”
“Compliments are always welcome, Mr. Lexington.”
His eyes sparkled. Taking hold of my elbow, he led me a few feet away from the group I’d been standing with. “That’s a dangerous thing to say to a man like me.”
“What was the compliment anyway?”
Grant’s eyes swept over me. “You look beautiful tonight.”
I blushed. “Thank you.”
Grant stopped a waiter as he passed. He gulped back the rest of the amber liquid in his glass and slipped the flute of champagne from my hand, setting them both down on the waiter’s tray.
“I was drinking that.”
He motioned for the waiter to move along and returned his attention to me. “I’ll get you more when we’re done.”
“Done with what?”
He held out his hand. “Dance with me.”
I shook my head. “I’m not sure that’s such a good idea.”
He smirked. “I’m fucking positive it’s not.”

(Bossy Brothers, #5)
Publication date: January 13th 2020
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense
Read as book five in the Bossy Brothers series or as a standalone book.
TARA
Lonnie Derringer is a filthy-mouthed, dirty-talking, long-distance fling.
(That’s been going on for two years.)
I know, I know. That’s not a fling. This might be getting serious.
I think about him all the time. I look forward to our quickie lunch dates and the way he whispers in my ear every night from two-thousand miles away.
He’s the best boyfriend I never had.
Until I find out his name isn’t Lonnie, it’s Alonzo.
Until I find out he’s not some boring accountant with a dead-end job, he’s a six-foot-four, yoked-out, tatted-up fisherman who never wears a shirt!
That’s right, girls. He’s been catfishing me online for two… freakingyears!
And then he becomes more than just the best boyfriend I’ve never had.
He becomes my target.
ALONZO
Tara Tanner is the perfect long-distance girlfriend who lives in the Land of Far, Far Away.
She’s a blonde, bookish bundle of sexy-overachiever. A wicked little siren with a filthy mind and an eye for pencil skirts. And every time I ask her to ‘send-me-a-pic-or-it-never-happened’ she goes above and beyond.
She is, quite simply, the most perfect woman I’ve ever had the pleasure to never meet.
I didn’t set out to lie to her and I didn’t expect to meet her.
But one day she shows up at my house, and guess what?
She wasn’t the only one being catfished for two years.
Because she’s not who she said she was either.
Bossy Brothers: Alonzo can be read as book five in the Bossy Brothers series or as a standalone story and features a sexy game of guess-who between a librarian obsessed with pencil skirts and a fisherman tatted up with mermaids. It’s long-distance fling filled with dirty-talking, sexy selfies, and safely-hidden secrets… until it isn’t.
Until the day they meet and realize… Love in the Land of fake Far, Far Away can’t ever compare to the real thing.

About Hanleigh Bradley

Hanleigh is a British author. She was born in Scotland but has lived near enough her whole life in the South of England, although she recently moved to the Midlands. Hanleigh loves reading books more than anything in the world; whether it’s reading them or writing them, Hanleigh just can’t get enough.

She relishes in the way authors can create whole worlds with the words they put in their books. She wishes that being an author really was magic, just like Once Upon A Time. Hanleigh absolutely adores Romantic fiction. She first fell in love with literature as a small child reading Dr Zeuss. She then fell in love with romance as a genre when she first read Pride In Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Hanleigh is about as English as it’s possible to be, which is highly ironic as she isn’t English at all. She sometimes wishes she could live inside the world that she can create inside her mind, but since that isn’t possible she puts pen to paper and shares that world with this world instead.

The tailor squawked as Dane pushed him aside, striding toward me in his underwear. He put his hands on the arms of my chair and leaned over me, his eyes on mine. I could see every inch of his naked skin. He glared at me. “I get it,” he growled. “You’re pushing me. It’s what you do. Are you trying to see how far you can go?” My voice came out breathy. God, I could smell him. “I’m not doing anything,” I said, and we both knew it was a lie. “What do you want?” Dane said, thick with frustration. “Do you want me to say I’m sorry?” My hands went cold and my breath stopped. “Sorry for what?” “You know what. Sorry for what I did the last time I saw you.” He thought he had to apologize for that? As if he had done something wrong? Had he thought that all this time? I couldn’t bear the idea. “No,” I told him. “Don’t say you’re sorry for that.” He still watched me, his voice softening a little. “I’ll say it if you want me to.” “Don’t,” I choked out. “Don’t.” A muscle in his jaw twitched, and then he shook his head, backing off. “Can I at least put my clothes on now?” I didn’t answer, and he didn’t wait for it. He grabbed his clothes and shoes and put them under his arm. “I’m going to dress in the men’s room,” he growled. “I’d like some privacy for a second.” I still couldn’t speak. Dane walked away, and I downed the rest of the champagne in my glass, gulping it. He thought I wanted him to apologize. That fucking man. That brilliant, stupid, utterly infuriating man. I put my heels back on and stood up, looking at the suits and fabrics in the room. Now that the measurements were—mostly—done, I talked to the tailor about cuts, fabrics, and colors. Then my phone rang. Only after I hung up did I realize that Dane hadn’t come out of the bathroom, which was around the corner and down the hall. “Would you like me to go find him?” the tailor asked politely. “No need,” I said as suspicion bloomed in my gut. I walked around the corner myself, pushing open the door to the men’s room. “Dane!” The room was empty. “Fuck,” I said as the tailor came in after me. I turned to him. “Is there a back door?” He looked stunned. Most likely, none of his rich clients had ever made an escape while getting measured for a bespoke suit. “At the end of the hall,” he said. “Fuck,” I said again. I half-ran down the hall, moving as fast as I could in my three-inch heels. I slammed the back door open and saw nothing but parking lot. Dane was gone.

Fancy Reading Some?

“Don’t think it,” Jack mutters from where he’s sat opposite me at the breakfast bar, drinking a cup of tea.

The house is quieter now, most of the guys having been sent off on various errands, mostly just so that I can have a second’s peace to right my thoughts.

I glance up at my Uncle, opening my mouth to tell him to mind his own business. I want to lose my temper with someone and he’s right here. I want to tell him that he has no fucking idea what I’m thinking.

The clear and precise logic that has gotten me through the last few hours is now gone and my temper is definitely frayed.

“You’re thinking that if she’s not pressed the panic button by now,” he begins.

“That’s not what I’m thinking at all,” I retort angrily.

“You’re also thinking that if we haven’t received a ransom yet…” He says it so matter-of-factly, far easier than I’d be able to.

“What do you mean?” Todd asks.

Glancing across the room to where he had until a moment ago been pacing back and forth, I grimace.

“Jack is just talking shit,” I say, lying as easily as I always do. “It means nothing. He’s reading into stuff without any fucking evidence.”

“Like you’re not doing the same bloody thing,” Jack says testily.

“Good job you’re my Uncle,” I say, holding his eye for longer than he’d like. As family, Uncle Jack has always gotten away with more than my other subordinates, but that doesn’t mean he can be disrespectful.

He bows his head slightly, his tone immediately changing. “Sorry, boss.”

It doesn’t matter how long I’ve had the job; I still hate that word. Like I’m some big, bad mob boss out for blood. I shake my head. The last thing I want is to argue with Jack. I like the fact he calls me on my shit. It’s not something I want to discourage. I just don’t want to deal with the real possibility that my sister might be dead.

I reach over the breakfast bar and pat his elbow, before pointedly looking at Todd, giving him the silent message that I don’t know how much we should be telling Emily’s husband.

His eyes soften with new understanding. He forgets that I have a soft heart sometimes. They all do. They’ve seen me kill people so I guess it’s understandable.

Sighing, I decide to bite the bullet. I take a breath before turning to Todd.

“Remember how I told you about the panic button?” I don’t know why I’m asking such an obvious question. He’s not stupid. Although in fairness I don’t actually know that. I know next to nothing about him, except that his name is Todd.

He nods his head, his impatience showing on his face.

“The fear is that if she hasn’t pressed it yet, that either she’s somewhere where the GPS won’t get a signal or they’ve taken it from her.”

“Okay,” he replies. “Those options don’t sound great but they’re not dreadful.

“The other option is that she’s already dead,” I say bluntly and his eyes all but pop out of their sockets.

“What?” he splutters.

Deliver good news leisurely and bad news hurriedly, that’s what my mum always said. She said it was akin to pulling off a plaster and giving a kiss. You don’t peel off a plaster teasingly any more than you’d ever rush a kiss.

“That’s the fear,” I say. “It doesn’t make it any more or less likely than it was two hours ago.”

His expression tells me he would have preferred I told him two hours ago.

“We should call the police.”

“They won’t be able to do anything that we’re not already doing,” I tell him. “In fact, there are things I can do that they can’t.”

“Like what?” he demands heatedly, slamming his fist on the breakfast bar.

“Illegal things. Hacking. Paying for information. Hitting people for information. Murder, if necessary.” I say it all as if I do those sort of things every day, which of course, I don’t. I mean I deal in illegal arms and I’ve occasionally gotten into the drug trade and okay, yes, I’ve killed a few people over the years, but I’m not… I’m not really sure how I’d like to finish that thought. I’m not a monster? A bad person?

I don’t like the look in his eyes. He’s judging me and usually, that wouldn’t bother me, but strangely I really don’t want my sister’s husband to hate me.

“Off point much?” Jack barks irritably. “More important than all that is the fact we’ve still not had a ransom.”

“So?” Todd asks, his eyes still on me.

I don’t want to tell him. I don’t want to say the words.

“It’s highly likely,” I grit my teeth, “that whoever took Emily mistook her for me.”

“And?” He’s glaring at me. If he hates me now, it will be twice as bad in a second.

“If that’s the case, they most likely won’t be after money,” I tell him. “It’ll be revenge.”

“You’re saying they’re going to kill her?”

“I’m saying that it’s highly probable that she may already be dead,” I say, my voice catching. Or being tortured to within an inch of her life, I finish in my head.

“However,” Jack chimes in, in what can only be described as false bravado, “the fact that we’ve not received a bragging photo of Emily’s corpse is very reassuring.”

“What the fuck?” Todd practically shouts at the same time I lung for my Uncle Jack.

I mean he’s right, but did he really have to say it like that.

“What the hell is wrong with you people?” Todd is now on a full-on rant and I don’t have the energy to try and calm him down.
