Cover Reveal & Excerpt- Power (Soul Savers 4) by Kristie Cook

The highly anticipated 4th book in the Soul Savers series is not too far away.
August 24 to be exact!
So we have the a sneak peek into chapter one and the cover for you to take a look at.

I never heard the rest of Tristan's sentence—what he didn’t want me to think. The handsome guy thought I’d nodded to him and had me by the hand, stumbling over his own feet as he dragged me to the dance area. As soon as we stepped onto the sunken floor, his hands were on my hips, pulling me close to him. For a brief moment, I forgot about all the mind signatures, the twirling lights and pounding music and could only think about how strange it was to be that close to a man other than Tristan.

But only for a brief moment. Before I could even do anything, a growl ripped through the music—or maybe just through my head—and Tristan was suddenly between the guy and me, his back to me and his arms out protectively. The drunk guy swung without even looking, and Tristan caught his wrist in mid-air. With the pain of the grip, the guy finally looked up into Tristan’s face. His eyes grew wide and his Adam’s apple bobbed as he gulped. He gave me an apologetic frown as he carefully stepped away from the dance floor.

Tristan turned back to me and wrapped his hands around my waist, pulling me to him as he swayed to the music. I looked up at him with a raised eyebrow.

You can talk to girls all night but I can’t dance once?”

His nostrils flared. “There’s a difference. His hands were all over you.”

I had things under control.”

He leaned closer to me and growled in my ear. “I didn’t like it!”

Looks pretty good!

Review- Without A Conscious by James William Peercy

Title- Without A Conscious
Author- James William Peercy
Genre- Mystery
Publisher- Hydra Publications
Release Date- 13th of April 2012

Blurb- They tried to kill a nation.

Revenge and genocide, is that even possible?

Walk into the arena of 'Without A Conscious...' where an unsuspecting college student is dragged into a world he never knew. Under a ruthless plot carried out in the name of progress and greed, our nation is attacked. Hindered from the truth by those in power, it's a fight for the right to survive.

When Cliff finds a photo of his murdered grandmother under the door of his apartment, his whole world explodes. Haunted by a mysterious caller, hunted by an unknown murderer, this mystery drags an ordinary college boy into a foul formula for genocide.

With only twenty-four hours to deliver what the caller wants, without knowing what it is, Cliff encounters a seductive temptress, a helpful turncoat, a broken heart, and a mystery which started in 1950.

Do you dare?

Review-  Stepping away from my normal genre I submersed myself into this amazing mystery that is full of suspense. The book which takes place over a short 2 days left Peercy with no time for introductions, instead we are thrown straight into the mystery when Cliff finds that a photo of his murdered Grandmother has been slipped under the door to his apartment. From the intensity at the beginning, the roller-coaster ride of crime and mystery fills the entire book, not slowing down until the end.

With a number of organizations chasing him for something his Grandmother left him to find, and trying not to get killed in the process, Cliff finds himself falling for a girl he just met- Penny. Caught up in the thrill of the chase, is their love real or not? Something you will have to find out.

Without A Conscious was a great introduction into this genre. I loved every minute of it. The storyline was well researched and written making it all blend together and flow well. The suspense made me want to just keep reading. For those who don't usually delve into the mystery genre, give this a go, it will be well worth it.

Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry Interview/Review & Giveaway "AUS ONLY"

Here's my interview with the wonderful Katie McGarry...

What or who inspired you to become a writer?

Writing is something I have always enjoyed. I had several teachers in high school who encouraged me to write, but I honestly didn’t begin to write until a couple of years ago. A story idea nagged at me so after my kiddos went to bed at night, I began to write.

Who is your favourite Author & what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I absolutely love The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. It was the very first book I ever stayed up all night to read. I connected completely with her characters and how they looked upon their friends as their family.

What was the hardest part about writing your book?

In order to capture certain emotions, I had to let myself hurt with my characters. I cried quite a few times while writing this book.

What was your favourite chapter to write and why?

Echo and Noah playing pool was definitely my favorite to write. I absolutely adore their banter, the sexual tension, and how Echo blows Noah out of the water with her pool playing capabilities. Of course, Noah edges unbelievably close to Echo, places his hands on her body, and…well…you’ll have to read the book to find out what happens next.

What was the most surprising things you’ve learned in writing your book?

I lost my best friend quite a few years ago, but I hadn’t realized how much grief I had held onto until I wrote this story. As Echo and Noah worked their grief, I also discovered I was working through mine.

Do you ever experience writers block?

Yes. I usually experience writers block when I’m trying to force a plot point onto my characters that they don’t particularly agree with. Eventually, I’ll backtrack and let my characters take the steering wheel.

What is the last book you read?

Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter. It is absolutely amazing!

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I love to read. I also adore hanging out with friends and family.

Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

I experienced a memory loss in second grade when I was bitten by a dog. In college, I regained the memory. I based some of Echo’s experience off of my own.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A Broadway actress, but then I discovered I can neither sing nor dance.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Write. Read. Find a great critique group. Never give up.

I began writing because I have characters alive in my mind and stories they demand for me to tell. I love the rush of my fingers tapping against the keys as I delve into a scene that’s been begging to be released on the page. Try to never lose that joy.

Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers and fans?

Thank you so much for supporting me, Echo, and Noah! You guys are amazing!

Light or Dark chocolate? Dark

Sunrise or Sunset? Sunset

Dogs or Cats? Cats

Tea or Coffee? Neither

Favorite Colour? Blue

Favourite Disney movie? Brother Bear

I would like to thank Morey Media and Katie McGarry for this interview opportunity. *Thank you for answering my questions and being on our blog, it's been a pleasure.* :)

Title: Pushing The Limits
Author: Katie McGarry
Release Date: 31st July 2012
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Published by: Harlequin Teen
Edition: ARC supplied by Harlequin Teen Australia

Goodreads Sypnosis:

So wrong for each other...and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

A little teaser from goodreads...

"I won't tell anyone, Echo. I promise." Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. "You didn't do that-did you? It was done to you?" No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.

My Rating: 5 AMAZING SASSY STARS

My Review: I'd like to thank Harlequin Teen Australia for sending me this book in return for an honest review.

You know those books you just love so much, that your at a loss for words? Well, for me, this is one those books. My goodness, where to start...

First, I'd like to congratulate the author on a riveting debut novel. It's been awhile since I've read a story that truly pulls at the heart-strings, it had me reaching for the tissues quite a few times. This is a story that'll stick with you long after you've finished the last page, it just gets under your skin. So much emotion flows through those pages. Each and every word that has been written brings this story to life, the characters just felt so real to me.

Our main girl Echo, she's been through so much in the past year. Something happened to her that her mind has surpressed, one really terrible thing (I'm not gonna tell ya what) and her world was turned upside down. And on top of that, her parents divorcing, high school life going from popular to living in the shadows, losing her beloved brother, a stepmum from hell. From it all she meets the gorgeous (pot head boy, lol) Noah, who seems to bring something out in her that no other person ever has (except maybe her brother). Noah, he hasn't had an easy life either. Being thrown around from foster home to foster home. Also, fighting to get his brothers back. Echo and Noah's first encounter isn't a pretty one, but from than on the chemistry between them starts to get spicy! They are the missing pieces in each other's lives that they needed to keep going.

I know, I know such a short review...but this book just rendered me speechless, it's just brilliant!!!

This book is one that is meant to be on everyone's bookshelf ready to be picked up and read over and over again. There's something in this for everyone. :)

Here's the awesome trailer..

Blood Life Book Tour! Hosted by Dark Mind Book Tours

Welcome to your first stop on the BLOOD LIFE TOUR!
On this stop I have a review, interview and giveaway so sit back, relax and enjoy.
Blood Life, written by Gianna Perada, is a twisted tale of witches/vampires mixed with a Romeo and Juliette type love story. Here is some more about Blood Life.

Blood Life is a vampire/witch thriller full of blood, magic, love, violence, and sex. The witches and vampires of the fictional world of the Spectrum have united and created a race of half-breeds called the Combined. These are very powerful entities, but their race has been threatened by a rogue vampire with very old, powerful blood named Lokee, son of the Great Witch, Devendra. This story is about letting Fate play out, but in all its turmoil, trying to save one woman who will be the key to saving the Combined.

Can the Combined’s strongest adversary form an army to defeat them, or will the power of three keep the race on top? Centered around the lives of four integral characters, Blood Life is a fresh and unique paranormal adventure. Meet Devendra, a powerful witch descended from one of the first lineages; Lokee, her son and worst enemy; Roman, her friend and companion; and Alethea, the key to it all…

 Isn't the cover amazing!

Here is what I thought of Blood Life!

Ok here we go. So first of all I have to commend Gianna for her creativity and wild imagination. The story, characters, places and dramas are very unique, some of which are also quite disturbing. In parts she made me feel uncomfortable, which I suppose in a way is a good thing.

We start off by being introduced to Roman and Alexandria, a forbidden love (this is where the Romeo and Juliette type love story comes in). Set in the 1700's, she is the King's daughter, he is but a peasant, both of which who would rather die than live without each other. Following the King's discovery of this "disgraceful trysting", Alexandria is forced into an arranged marriage. Little did she how much that it would affect her life and future lives to come.

This part of the book to me was really confusing. I was at a loss as to how it actually fit into the witch/vampire category, it made no reference to them whatsoever so you can understand my confusion. Gianna's writing style made it even more confusing. I found it hard to keep up with who she was talking about and where the storyline was going. This may dis-hearten you...

But Keep Reading

Skip forward to 1982. Roman has been a vampire for the last 2 centuries, living his existence without his one true love. That is until the time comes when her soul is re-introduced to him as Alethea. This is where the roller-coaster starts. Given a second chance at love they are forced to fight to save their race against the evil Lokee (aka Alethea's husband from her previous life) who is hell-bent on destroying Fate no matter what it takes.

Although Blood Life is at times hard to follow, the events throughout are thoroughly entertaining from the sick and twisted rituals that will make your stomach churn to the intriguing battles over mind control. Gianna's out there imagination provided a storyline like no other, it's in a league of it's own with nothing to compare it to. Yes it fits into the paranormal genre but it's so different. It was nice to read something where the author didn't hold back, I get the feeling that she didn't care if it made the reader uncomfortable. To me it's those parts that made it memorable and worth reading.

Interview time!
The answers in this interview are awesome! They alone make you want to read Blood Life.

Q1. What or who inspired you to become a writer?
Early on, I was drawn to paranormal stories and dark twisty movies. My family is full of creative genius; I guess it was always in my blood and there wasn’t one single trigger to get me going on the thought. Although, Blood Life was inspired by a paper I wrote on vampires in junior college. The professor hated my topic and gave me a D, even though it was a great paper. So, I left her class after telling her off and went home to start writing the first draft. ;-)

Q2. Who is your favourite Author & what is it that really strikes you about their work?
I have many favorite authors. I guess the author that truly inspired me to write about vampires was Anne Rice. Her intricate, romantic, and dark alluring worlds intrigued me. Her way with words really spoke to me and resembled mine (at least I thought so).

Q3. What was the hardest part about writing your book?
Letting it be finished. I couldn’t let it go. I kept revising and reediting it. That’s why it took me 15 years from start to finish. That won’t happen with the next book. The first born is always a little special.

Q4. Has the paranormal been something that has always interested you?
Always! Ever since I can remember; even as a little tiny girl.

Q5. What was your favourite chapter to write and why?
I’d say my favorite was the first sex scene between Roman and Alexandria. I am a very passionate person, so writing erotica like that came so naturally and exciting. I’ve toned it way down since the first draft, let me tell you… only because I felt what is there now is enough for that story. Had it been a straight erotica story, I would have left it as it was originally.

Q6. What was the most surprising things you’ve learned in writing your book?
That I can really tell a story from beginning to end! It was such a trip to piece it together, and this particular book, since it was written over the span of 15 years, has undertones that tell the story of my life and growth as a writer and a person. It’s pretty cool if you think about it.

Q7. Do you ever experience writers block?
Yes! Usually when I’m stressed out in my daily life. Stress really affects my writing.

Q8. What is the last book you read?
“Inside the Outside” by Martin Lastrapes. Excellent book!

Q9. If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or
dead, real or fictional. with whom would it be?
My inner witch, Devendra. She’s the bomb. I love everything about her.

Q10. What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Exercise. Watch movies. Have coffee/tea with good company. Watch live music. Read. Cuddle.

Q11. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
The first thing I wanted to be was a nun (I went to catholic school). That quickly turned into a bus driver (WTF?) and then a veterinarian. Writer came next and stuck. =)

Q12. If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role
as you?
Me… Or Madeline Stowe. Or Sherilyn Fenn. Or Monica Bellucci.

Q13. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Yes, always remain true to yourself. Don’t write for others; write for you. And write with all your heart.

Q14. Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers and fans?
Thanks for giving my debut a chance and for your amazing support! More to come, even stronger than the first, so stay tuned! =)

Some quick questions..
Q15. Light or Dark chocolate?
Dark

Q16. Sunrise or Sunset?
Sunset

Q17. Dogs or Cats?
Cats

Q18. Tea or Coffee?
Coffee

Q19. Favorite Colour?
Purple

Q20. Favourite Disney movie?
Old Yeller

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions!

T.M Goeglein COLD FURY Official Blog Tour

Welcome to your next stop on the Cold Fury Blog Tour!
I was really excited to be a part of this tour with all of the hype Cold Fury is getting.

So let's start with a bit of info on T.M Goeglein

T.M Goeglein began his career as a writer of print and television ads for a host of advertising and media companies. As a screenwriter, he created both original scripts and worked as a script doctor for several production companies in Los Angeles. He was an original contributor to the Huffington Post 'Living" section, and continues to write for both the national edition and Huffington Post Chicago.

His debut young adult novel, COLD FURY, will be published by Penguin/Putnam in 2012 and is the first in a trilogy; he's currently working on the second book. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Laura, and two young children.

You can do your stalking on his WEBSITE, FACEBOOK and TWITTER!

Onto the book!

Synopsis- Having just turned sixteen, Sara Jane Rispoli's birthday is anything but sweet. Returning from her first high school dance, Sara Jane walks into a ransacked home and finds her family missing, the dog maimed and a psychopath in a ski mask who won't rest until she's dead. With nothing to go on but a clue hidden in a bust of Frank Sinatra, Sara Jane jumps into her dad's 1965 Lincoln Continental and drives into the night.

The clues lead her to an ancient, worn notebook that contains a guide to a Chicago hiding in plain sight- safe houses, secret doors, mysterious phone numbers are all suddenly at Sara Jane's disposal. But it also contains darker, more troubling secrets concerning the Rispoli family, including the revelation that a rare and powerful hereditary trait passed own from the time of Alexander the Great enabled certain male members of the Rispoli clan to become major figures in the Outfit, Chicago's storied crime syndicate. Sara Jane realizes the secret-filled notebook is the reason why her family was taken, and why she's being pursued by three different fractions: her turncoat uncle, Police Detective Dotty Smelt, and the huge, shambling freak in the ski mask. Learning the gift awakens a realization in Sara Jane that she, too, possesses the powerful phenomenon.

With the help of a weight-challenged sidekick, an angry Italian greyhound, and a legion of guardian angel sewer rats, Sara Jane is chased, attacked, and fights back with cold fury, staying one step ahead of her pursuers and circumnavigating the male-centric Outfit while also keeping a growing romance.

Here is my review!

Cold Fury is not in the typical genre I would usually read but none the less it was enjoyable. Sara Jane is your typical loner teen. She avoids the limelight and appreciates seclusion. The one thing she loves and
cherishes the most is her close-knit family. Her world gets turned upside down when her parents and brother disappear and she is left to uncover her family's deep and dark secrets.

Cold Fury has the feel of a diary entry. It is informative and very detailed. There is insight into everything with not one subject skimmed over. Cold Fury oozes mystery with secrets being spilled at every turn. The exciting and well written storyline makes for an adventure that intrigues and consumes. I found that in some parts of the book Goeglein took his time to explain things but further in I found that it was necessary to do so because the information is needed to understand what happens down the track.

All in all it was an entertaining read and I am curious to see what happens in the next one.

You can pre-order Cold Fury online at AMAZON, BARNES & NOBLE and THE BOOK DEPOSITORY

      Here is an Excerpt!

Well, Cordelia, are you glad to be back?”

Yes. Why did you ask for me?”

Ah, straight to the point.” His eyes narrowed into slits. “Very plucky. Most would have the sense to be more fearful and not ask questions,” he growled softly.

I held my breath, controlling my instincts. A snarl was always a signal for me to transform. But, I held back, on full alert.

I was told that about you. And that’s one of the reasons you’re here. You’ve been appointed as a mentor.”

It was my turn to smirk. I got to my feet. “I can’t be appointed anything. Thanks for thinking of me, though. I guess it’s some kind of honor. But, no thanks.” I made my way to the door.

And crashed right into Jagger’s chest. I should have anticipated his move; lightning-fast location transfer was something covered in the first semester. I clumsily stepped back, then met his darkened gaze.

He lowered his head, brushing his nose along my neckline, breathing me in. I stood dead still, letting my fingers fuse. I shivered as his lips found my right ear, his every breath forming icicles against my skin. Then, he touched my fused fingers.

Easy, demon princess. Relax.”

I boiled over with anger. Who the fuck did he think I was? Some silly human girl who’d melt under his pathetic attempt at intimidation? Not so.

Step back, and I will.” My words were supposed to come out in a firm demonic growl, but instead, they slithered out in an unfortunate raspy whisper.

He chuckled under his breath and took a half step back. He needed to be taught not to mess with demons. Slapping the smirk off his face would be too much of a cliché. My mischievous demon instincts took over.

As the corners of his lips curled into a leer, I jerked up my arm and swiftly wrapped my fingers around the back of his neck, pulling his face down to mine. His eyes widened in surprise, but he made no move to resist as I stood on tiptoes and roughly parted his lips with mine. I kept my eyes wide open, gazing into his, as I explored his mouth, drinking him in. He yielded under my touch. The kiss became more and more fervent, until a surge of hot and cold, of terror and excitement, zapped through me–and him, by the surprise on his face–leaving us shocked and unable to move. Our eyes remained locked together as we stood suspended in time.

Jagger looked as dazed as I felt. His eyes searched mine, but I had nothing to offer, no explanation. Then, it hit me. Dad had mentioned the extremely rare phenomenon. I raked through my mind, trying to remember what he had said.

Sounds good right? I will be reading and reviewing it in August so keep your eyes peeled.
That's it from me for today so wherever you are enjoy your day and...

Witness by Jamie Magee Blog Tour / Excerpt & Giveaway

Hey all, we're the next stop on the Witness blog tour. We have a special excerpt to share with you all. But first here's a little more info about Jamie Magee's new book Witness...

Forgetting who you are is hard, but not as hard as remembering. Remembering that you have no idea how to face your demons, how to save the lost.
Charlie is at a sacred threshold.

The ‘glass box’, as she calls it, is slowly falling. Her childhood has ended. The moment she has yearned for, the moment where she can go and do anything, anything at all without seeking permission is now. She’d dreamed of this time, all of her friends had, but now that it’s here, she doesn't know which way to run, or if she should even run at all.

Charlie knew that running would be a goodbye forever, and she didn’t want that, she wanted to freeze the time she was in, to stay in the calm before the storm, the illusion that she could out wit the ones who seek her, hold the one she loves, and play the music that gives her passion. She’ll soon discover no one can hide from their fate, that time does not stop in place, and that whether she chooses to perceive it or not, the darkness has come.

What Charlie feared most, losing him, is a threat now more than ever. A realm, a dark and twisted dream world has called him, and now she must fight to save him, and others like him. Standing in her way is a soul from another life, a boy that promises that he will destroy her world, to save her life. With this threat in hand, with the dark path that her friends are on, Charlie must fight to find a way to leave, to trust that beyond her dimension there are souls that can help her, help all of them. The only question is, will she find them before it's to late, and if she can't, how is she going to use her gift, the gifts they all share to save them.

Now, here's an Excerpt from Witness just for you guys...

I never went under seventy the entire way to Draven’s. A drive that should have taken fifteen minutes was cut into seven. My heart was beating so fast that I couldn’t breathe, and my stomach was in knots.

Once I turned in the driveway, I stopped a few feet in…I had to calm down. I took in long, deep breaths and told myself I was OK…I was imagining things…they didn’t see me….Bianca didn’t know I was there. I leaned my head against the seat and glanced in the rearview mirror; as I did, Britain’s Aston Martin slowly passed by Draven’s house. My foot was on the gas before I looked ahead. I peeled around the side of the house and threw the truck in park behind the garage, then ran toward the door. It was locked; panic came over me as I stood on my tip toes and reached for the light, for the key I knew was hidden there. I dropped it, then fumbled to pick it up and forced it in the key hole.

Inside, all of the blinds were closed and the house was quiet…so quiet, you’d think it was the dead of night. I locked the door behind me, then rushed through the kitchen to the entry hall and peered out the front window, looking for Britain’s car. He wouldn’t come here…he wouldn’t let Bianca come here, I thought over and over. I reached to my side, wanting to check my phone - but my bag wasn’t there; I’d left it with Evan…my phone was with Evan. I squinted my eyes closed as I thought of the texts that would be there when I got it back – what clever game of wits Britain was playing with me.

I stared out the window for countless minutes. When I saw no evidence of the Aston Martin driving by again, I turned and looked at the sleepy, dim house. I was a little surprised not to find Nana downstairs…she literally lived in the kitchen. I guess she was playing cards at a friend’s house. I could only assume that Aden was out just as late as Draven. They had been rehearsing new songs with a few guys across town for weeks now, and I had no doubt that they were both sleeping soundly.

I climbed the stairs, trying to catch my breath and slow my heart. My plan for today was in shambles. I wanted to talk to Draven…to tell him about Britain…but after talking to Evan, I was terrified to make him angry, to give reason for the nightmares he saw to be darker. I wasn’t sure how much weight I could give to the idea of his emotions controlling the intensity. The one person that would be able to explain if they did or didn’t would be Madison…that girl has always been able to understand others’ emotions…sometimes she understood them better than her own.

I slowly opened Draven’s bedroom door. The only light came from the sides of the drapes that were pulled. I saw him lying in the center of his bed, on his stomach…his shirt was off, and his arms were above his head under his pillow. My eyes moved across every perfect muscle in his back and long, strong arms. The sight of him literally took my breath away.

I quietly slid out of my shoes and let my hoodie fall to the floor, then tiptoed to the end of the bed. I crawled slowly along his side…he never moved. I let my lips rest on his arm; when he didn’t respond, I leaned closer and kissed his neck softly. I felt him smile against my cheek. Then he whispered, “If this is a dream…don’t wake me.”

The sound of his hypnotic voice made my skin hum. He pulled his arm from under the pillow and wrapped it around my side and pulled me against him. His lips were on mine before I could say a word. I took in every movement of his lips as if it were the air I needed to breathe. My arms tightened around his waist as I squeezed myself against his warm chest. The idea of losing him…of him fighting some dark nightmare... it was too much to bear. Tears came to the corner of my eyes; once Draven felt them against his balmy skin, his kiss hesitated, then he slowly pulled away and stared into my eyes.

“What’s wrong?” he whispered as his hand slowly moved along my side.

“I missed you,” I said in a quiet voice that echoed the pain my heart felt in his absence.

“I’m right here,” he whispered as he leaned down and began to move his lips across my neck. The sensation that was coursing through every part of me was almost enough to make me forget my morning…almost.

“I’m worried about you…I’m scared,” I whispered as I let out a breath of passion.

His lips halted, and as his eyes rose to meet mine, I saw them change from an alluring green to the color of coal. Before I could say or think anything, he flew out of the bed and stood staring across the room. Every muscle in his body was flexed – his eyes were fierce and peered at nothing.

Trembling, I raised to my knees. “Draven…,” I said faintly.

He didn’t make a sound – he didn’t even blink. I stood on the bed and moved closer to him. I was eye-to-eye with him, but I swear he couldn’t see me. I reached my trembling hands for his shoulders; I could feel a pulsating anger emanating from his skin.

“Draven,” I said again. When he didn’t respond, I pulled his stiff body closer to me. “Stop…you’re scaring me…I’m sorry – I love you,” I said as I reached my hands for his flawless face.

In that instant, green began to flood his eyes, and his arm raised and threw something across the room. The sound of it hitting the wall was so loud, so sudden, that I flung myself forward onto Draven. My arms were wrapped around his neck; I was holding him so tight, you’d have thought that my life depended on it. In that second, I felt his arms come around my waist. As he buried his face in my neck, his arms tightened around me.

At that moment, his bedroom door opened. I nervously looked over my shoulder to see a young boy, one of the boys that had come home with Evan, standing there. He looked from us to the wall across the room. My eyes followed his to see a black book with decorative metal silver edges logged in the wall; Draven had thrown it so hard that it stabbed the wall as if it were a dagger.

“A book…that’s different. Can I have it?” the boy asked as he took a step toward it.

Draven let go of me as he rushed to the door. “No…out – now!”

“Sorry – geeze,” the boy said, rolling his eyes. “Next time, I’ll just ignore the fact that it sounded like the wall was coming down.”

“Out!” Draven said as he reached the door. The boy locked eyes with me and smiled wickedly as Draven closed the door and locked it.

“Who…what…what’s going on?” I said as I fell to my knees on the bed.

Draven didn’t answer me. He walked to the wall and pulled the logged book loose. He flipped through the pages, then rolled his eyes before he flung it on the dresser at the foot of the bed. He started to pace the floor as he ran his fingers through his dark hair. My eyes moved over every inch of him. There wasn’t a moment in my life that I hadn’t thought he was the most utterly attractive human begin on the planet...but right now…seeing his anger…seeing the raw power he had just displayed…it…it just made him seem near godly – too perfect to touch.

“Draven,” I whispered.

A little about the author...

Jamie Magee has always believed that each of us have a defining gift that sets us apart from the rest of the world, she has always envied those who have known from their first breath what their gift was. Not knowing hers, she began a career in the fast paced world of business. Raising a young family, and competing to rise higher in that field would drive some to the point of insanity, but she always found a moment of escape in a passing daydream. Her imagination would take her to places she’d never been, introduce her to people she’s never known. Insight, her debuting novel, is a result of that powerful imagination. Today, she is grateful that not knowing what defined her, led her on a path of discovery that would always be a part of her.
